Hello there, looking to build my new pc by the end of the week and i'm looking to buy the new ryzen 3000 series. I'm still torn apart between the 3600 or 3700x, i will be using my pc for gaming and maybe i will stream aswell. As to go with it, i'm looking for a good mobo but i wouldnt like to spend a lot of money on motherboards if i won't use most of its features. I dont think i need the X570 because im going to get an RTX 2070 super so it wont benefit the 4.0, but is it okay in terms of performance and longeability if i use any of the 2 processors with the B450? I'm looking to build a MicroAtx PC aswell if possible so i have my eyes set on ASrock B450M steel legend or the MSI b450m gaming plus. I would like both the PC and mobo to be future proof as i wouldnt want an upgrade for atleast the next 3 years

Thank you

....

Looking at the b450m steel legends, looks like it has cool features with a cheaper price compared to MSI's mortar. It should be compatible with the Ryzen 3000 right? have they released the bios update and etc in order to use it for the 3000 series?

Thanks!

It does have a released BIOS... V 2.30. Description reads "Improve user experience for Matisse " so that sounds like it.

But if it you can't get a board that's 'Ryzen 3000 Ready' as TJHooker suggests you'll need an older Ryzen CPU to do the update with.

my b450 are one of the first to fully support the ryzen 3xxx models but on this board the highest i would go are a 3600x.I am not planning to upgrade but personally i feel the 3600 non X are the best value all rounder.Yes the 3700x is faster but it's also more if you look at dollar per frame there's non beating the 3600.But if you need the extra cores for productivity then by all means get it 😛

Interesting note... Hardware Unboxed just completed testing on an asrock B350M Pro 4 with a 3900X and a 3700X... he would have tested the 3600 but decided it was pointless since the 3700X ran the tests (overclocked even) with VRM's so cool.

The 3900X also ran well enough... so long as you don't attempt any overclocking. So he's suggesting, unsurprising, just stick to 3700/3800 or 3600 processors. But overclocking seems pretty pointless so far anyway from what I've been able to see.

Also, the BIOS made available for the B350M is AGESA 1.0.0.1 while the BIOS on his X570 is at AGESA 1.0.0.3. He's concerned board vendors won't stay current with BIOS updates on older boards (especially X370/B350 i suppose) as they really do want to concentrate on later boards (X570 and, soon, B550).

At any rate... i think a B450M Steel Legend should have VRM power delivery pretty close to a B350M Pro 4 so it should be equally fine with even 3700 and 3800... but be cautious with 3900X.
