[SOLVED] 4 pin to 8 pin Cpu power

hey guys
i have just received my new Motherboard but the CPU power cable is 4 pin but the motherboard is 8 pin
Can i use this to get it working?

I'd never use an adapter on such a high-power part.

Nor would I ever answer such a question without knowing the exact motherboard and power supply.

Seems sketchy, trying to supply more power with a cable specifically made to supply less. You might be able to do it, but I would not recommend it.

In many cases, you can power a motherboard with an 8-pin CPU connector with a 4-pin CPU connector and the only consequence will be overclocking and the like.

However, as I said, I'd never recommend this without knowing the specifics!

Again, would not recommend. Try at your own risk... and, just in curiosity, why have an overclockable CPU in a non-overclockable motherboard?

Well he can't overclock even if he wanted to. B250 doesn't allow it.

If his PSU doesn't have a full 8 pin connector then its not up to the task. Time for a replacement.

Well, it would be a better idea if he just got a PSU that has an 8pin connector. An adapter could work, but I would not recommend it.

In some cases yes, but according to MSI's manual it calls for the whole 8 pin to be connected. He needs a new PSU with the proper connector.

Dude, like 8 people have told you no already. Its NOT better. Its a BAD idea.

Tell your friend to stop being cheap, unless he wants to destroy new components.

As per the manual 8 pin needs to be connected.

You're asking if your friend can drive around on a flat tire. Sure he can, if he dosn't mind demolishing his wheel and damaging his suspension.
