4GB versus 8GB RAM

Hi all, I've heard that only 4GB RAM is needed for gaming, but at the same time, it seems like no one would recommend getting less than 4GB either... So my question is, for gaming in Windows 7, would I see any benefit from 8GB? Links would be great as well. Thank you very much.
