I do not know of a graphics card that has HDMI 2.0 as of yet. Mine does have Mini Displayport 1.2, which can handle 4k @ 60 hz.

Does anyone know if connecting a next-gen HDMI 2.0 4k TV to the dp 1.2 will allow the HDMI 2.0 to run at its full speed for 4k at 60 hz? I've looked around and can't find an answer. Would be a shame to get a 4k television that can't run properly off my beefy graphics card.

Trust me, you do not want to go down to anything lower than 4k on a 4k TV that's 40+ inches, it is absolutely horrible, it's indescribably bad. It's like a big blur, it is okay on like a monitor of 30 inches max, but on a TV, it's just extremely bad.

i just want to keep this alive.

i am considering a 295x2 to push 4k @ 60hz to my Vizio p652ui-b, but i want to make sure i will be able to get that using an adapter.

i am waiting for the alleged gtx 980 8gb to come out, but i am hoping to make my purchase by the time GTA V comes out.

i think the hdmi 2.0 port on the tv/monitor is looking for a handshake that the dp 1.2 port isnt giving. until 1, drivers are written to force a handshake (meaning it is upgraded to dp 1.3, which most 1.2 ports should be able to upgrade to 1.3 according to dp website , so a 1.3 port would be able to use a passive adapter that you can currently find on amazon. or 2, active adapters should be coming out in 2015, that take dp 1.2 4k at 60hz and convert it to hdmi 2.0 4k @ 60hz which would shake hands with your tv/monitor. i have been looking but i havent found this unicorn adapter. sorry i wish i had a link to the site i read this on, it was some sort of DP 1.3 FAQ website.

ALSO: 4k @ 60hz requires more bandwidth. most HDMI cables that dont list a speed spec are 10Gbp cables. you will need a 18Gbps rated cable to properly push 4k @ 60hz.

i just bought a 65inch vizio p652ui-b. currently my 660 sli setup only allows me to get 1080p for Far Cry 4. it looks just as good as it did on my 55inch 1080p Sony. i want to say better, but that would just be the placebo effect most likely.

i disagree, but probably depends on the tv/monitor brand/model.

if there was a way to get 4k @60hz from dp 1.2 to hdmi 2.0 i would probably pull the trigger on a 295x2, but i am waiting until GTA V comes out to make a purchase. so hopefully either the gtx 980 8gb is out by then or dp 1.2 gets an update, or that mystical active adapter comes out by then!

I got a 3D 55" LG 4k screen last august to enjoy my xfire oc 7970 and it was really shocking to find this 30 fps limit due to the HDMI 1.4

I noticed AMD improved its drivers and now most games reach 30fps on 4k. Previous drivers didn't even try, so only games like Paradise City, Saints Row 4 and very few others 4k "ready" reached 30 fps.

The big news is that promate.com.cn is releasing a DP1.2 to HDMI2.0 IC adapter in March! part is
PS176.

I will try to get the adapter from them and let everybody know how the experience goes, if anyone around here grabs one first, please post whether it works and then how we could get one.

BTW, 4k gaming looks awesome!! check out Crysis 3 and Metro LL, I also expect a big improve over 3D gaming

You ever get the promate adapter? I ended up buying a 295x2 on eBay for $550, so I really hope a working adapter comes out soon.

I was thinking about it, 30hz probably isn't too bad since I doubt far cry and gta v will get much more then 30fps at 4k anyways with a 295x2

Carlosriosnes not yet, the Promate guy referred me to their retail distributor a Bizlink executive that said these adapters are coming to the market in May, so I keep my fingers crossed, I love 4k 3d, even tough some games look slow, less demanding one look really good

Don't invest your money in 4k unless you have a tv / monitor that is capable of native 60hz @ 4k and a gtx 980 which you will want to look at sli to keep a solid 60 fps. This is your only option currently. There aren't adapters to convert DP to HDMI 2.0 properly yet... nor anytime soon. Bizlink has been pushing this release date out month to month.

just thought i would shoot you a reminder to let me know if you hear back about the adapter!

You don't need two 980's in sli. These horror stories are silly You can use a single 780Ti with hdmi now to achieve 60hz (780Ti uses 2.3Gb vram without AA and 2.6Gb with, regardless if it's 1080p or 4k, it sits roughly the same). I avg 43fps in project cars 4k ultra setting minus AA which you don't need. I'm getting near the same results with a 970 g1 over clocked even further too. COD AW hits 79fps but displays 60hz in ultra minus AA. Bin AA as it's not needed for 4k.

I just got an e-mail from them and it looks like it won't be until the end of the year... (Accell=bizlink)

Thank you for contacting Accell.

We currently do not offer such an adapter. It is currently in the development pipeline and may become available by the end of the year. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Do you have any mini display port to HDMI 2.0 cables that support 4k@60hz?

Thats it, i am driving to their office and stealing it from the testing room!

Just purchased this on aliexpress for $55 Free Shipping Mini DisplayPort/Mini DP to Active HDMI Adapter AMD Eyefinity/Max 4096 x 2160@60HZ or 2560 x 1600@120Hz 3D Vision. Fingers crossed...

can you link and item or put in a model number so i can search for the product you are referring to? nevermind, i found it the site looks SHADY. i doubt it will work, but i hope it does!

technically the photo with the specs shows what i believe is a dp to mini dp adapter, which would be capable of 4k 60hz. i think someone on the site just grabbed the wrong image, saw the specs written on it and copied them to the description.

so you will either 1, get a dp to mini dp adapter. or 2 a mini dp to hdmi adapter that will not support 4k 60hz. but again, i hope i am wrong.

Is this it?

While the description sounds like what we want, it also does not mention HDMI 2.0 explicitly. Also, while I desperately want this to work so I can pipe 4k@60hz from my laptop to a TV, this is the very first device of it's nature I've ever seen advertised and it's totally generic straight from China-- so I'm doubtful.

you found the actual one he was referring to, but i still agree with you, the fact that its the first of its kind and only available from a weird site direct from China is a bit of a red flag.

I really hope we're wrong and it works! I check for updates on DP 1.2->HDMI 2.0 daily because the adapter is long overdue at this point.

Another poster on AVS Forums contacted the seller and confirmed with them that it was in fact HDMI 1.4 x.x

I got it today. It doesn't support HDMI 2. Note that the seller took the listing down but still has another listing for the apparently same item (same picture) for less than half the price without mentioning the 4K 60Hz support.

I've been down this road over the last few weeks and this scenario has really put a bad taste in my mouth with AMD right now. Its half my fault for not researching this further that I did but using a tv for a monitor is a fairly common thing these days.

I have been pinging emails back and forth with Sapphire customer support and they made it clear theres no known method to resolve this issue and from the sound of it there wont likely be any drivers written to fix the firmware to update dp 1.2 to 1.3. I could be wrong on that because I'm reading between the lines.

None of the 300 series cards are known to have hdmi 2.0 either. I have the Sapphire tech checking with his engineers to verify about any of the 300 series cards to support hdmi 2.0 so I will post back when I get a reply, hopefully tomorrow.

Its crazy as heck to have tri xfire with a 295x2 and a 290x and cant get 4k support. I'm a half an email away from selling both cards and picking up a single 980ti. You've definitely won this round Nvidia and after over 5 years of being an avid AMD supporter Im about to drop a 980ti in my Intel x99/5930 set up...

The primary reason hdmi ports werent used on the 295x2 and many other cards is due to only supporting hdmi 1.4.

Hi there,
I'm searching a way to get a 4K TV and use it as a display on my computer and i think manufacturers of graphics cards and TVs had a deal to stop us doing this. Because they're not putting DP port to TVs and HDMI 2.0 is not as mature as DP on graphics cards. Using a converter looks fine but there's no converter that's reported working. So the only way to use 4K@60hz is buying a TV with HDMI 2.0 (Not all 4K TVs have HDMI 2.0 so check white papers) and buy a GTX 970 or 980 with HDMI 2.0 on it. There's no other way to use 4K@60hz approach. By the way ATI/AMD has no plan to make a cheap solution for HDMI 2.0 yet. I think this is a plan to stop us reaching 4K@60hz in cheap way like we did with HDTVs years ago.
Thanks for this manufacturers!

yes we know. you pretty much summed up this thread lol. except a few things.

1) yes, not every 4k tv has hdmi 2.0, but any 2014+ 4k tv by a trusted manufacturer has at least 1 hdmi 2.0. i wouldn't worry about that anymore. shoot many of the 2015 have 3+ hdmi 2.0 ports, im stuck with just one. i figure by the time i need (2) 2.0 ports 2.0 switches will be $10 bucks on amazon.

2) AMD is lagging, but i have been reading numerous articles on the matter (geforce, avsforum, vizio fourms, etc) and an AMD rep released in a statement something along the lines of "adapters will be out this summer to allow 4k 60hz from dp 1.2" as an answer to the question of why no hdmi 2.0 on the cards.

edit, found the statement on a ocuk forum: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=28199976&postcount=706

as you can find out from this thread we have been waiting on bizlink/accel to make that adapter, but they have pushed it back to winter of this year.

on a plus side i found another company that just released their spec/part for the cable. maybe this is the company amd knows has already created the chip. hopefully some trusted cable/adapter companies have megachips going into some adapters soon!

http://www.megachips.us/products/MCDP28_Products.php

also, i just emailed megachip support and asked if they have a list of any companies and/or products that are using their MCDP2850 chip. i will update when i hear back.
