Hi. My PC has 5 short beeps when I turn it on. Before it was 3 short beeps but I reseated the RAM and that fixed the 3 short beeps. But now there are 5 short beeps. I've reseated the CPU and the beeps continued. (Yes the arrow thing is same as on motherboard so it fitted properly) I re-applied thermal paste and that seemed to fix it yesterday but today its beeping again. This is a brand new build less than 2 weeks old and the beeps only started a few days ago. Any help is appreicated. Thanks. :)

PC Specs:
GPU: EVGA GTX 650 1GB DDR5
CPU: AMD A6-6400K Richland Dual-Core 3.9GHz Black Edition (Not overclocked)
RAM: 4 GB DDR3 (1 stick)
Motherboard: ASROCK FM2A55M-VG3
PSU: ThermalTake TR2 600W
HDD: Toshiba 500 GB SATA
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro 64 Bit

Is the CPU powered? Is the CPU fan plugged in and spinning? Did you go through the my cpu wont boost checklist?

I think the 5 beeps suggest a CPU problem. However it is VERY VERY rare to ever get a bad cpu. It may not be seated properly or possibly you missed a power connection or fan?

**EDIT**

Are you saying the computer booted prior then the 5 beep no post started happening later?

I would start by basically taking everything out and re-seating it again.. i know i know.

if you have another stick of ram i would try that as well. if not try the ram in another slot. sometimes even when you think you got everything just right something is still amiss.

Maybe something as simple as a loose fan power pin that came undone.

But my guess is since its so rare to get a bad CPU. Is you have an off Standoff and you may be getting a short. You may have to go as far as removing the mobo and making sure it is on the proper layout of the standoffs. one way to test that is to boot out of the case.

Just in case you are unaware no offense intended but you never know. here is a link to another post with a good pic of the standoffs.

What do you mean if its powered? The heatsink and fan are plugged in and spinning. Yes, I did go through the checklist. When I first built it two weeks ago, it was booting fine. Then all of a sudden a few days ago, whenever I turn it on it beeps (like it has to charge up or something), then when I try again it boots up fine until the next day. Yes I know what standoffs are.

After you flash any BIOS you should always enter bios after reboot and load setup defaults. Give that a shot see if it solves your problems.

"What do you mean if its powered?" i didn't realize you had it boot already. Sometimes its as simple as the pin near the CPU is not connected. As shown in the boot guide.

I loaded the setup defaults, downgraded BIOS back to original state, then loaded defaults afterwards again yesterday. Powered PC on today and no beeps. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. :l Thanks for the help though! :)

Beeps came back after downgrading BIOS. I think it was trying to use the APU instead of my GPU card. I disabled the onboard video, seems to be working this time...hopefully.
