I am one of those cheapskates and would like to see the alternatives to a base Macbook pro 13" ($1099). I have searched several popular PC brands, but can't seem to find anything.

Can someone find another PC from other brands that cost about the same or less, but have similar specs or better? (C2D 2.4, 4G RAM, 250 HDD, Nvidia 320M, 13" screen, ~2Kg)

There probably isn't any other laptops which can last 10hrs, but I can settle for 5hrs.

A quick comment on the article:
the i7-720QM runs at 1.8 gigahertz, not 2.8 gigahertz. It does have turbo boost but I don't think that comes to an even 2.8 gigahertz with it on.

All the computers being compared aren't even the same processor, so in reality we are comparing a turkey and a chicken.

I will take the new arrandale any day with the 8+ hour battery.

Can not compare a macbook with a windows computer, the behavior of hardware and software is different, a mac with 2GB of RAM makes twice as things that a Windows PC with 4GB. If you use windows, then compare windows pc with windows pc, talk of prices and features, but MACs are another thing.

The little glowing fruit has shown the world how to network their own systems, created unbeatable platforms to use for anything that is 1000X more user friendly than the strict world of Bill Gates.
I'll take my glowing fruit any day, adios to all of Microsoft's crap.
