BTW: what were they thinking at google? Sure the extra menu could come in handy sometimes (if it actually contained useful options that is) but can't they at least give you the option to hide it, or better yet, hide it on default and only pop it out when the user requests it?

[citation][nom]Gulli[/nom]This is NOT a solution: it only sets your homepage so it only works the first time you perform a search. As soon as you do a second search it'll be back to the annoying sidebar version.[/citation]

You could try any of the other solutions; those are a little more permanent.

The hide google options add-on kinda works in Chrome, but it has one major flaw: you can't opt to show the options when you search for images, it works fine when looking on the web, but not for images.

Is there a way to shut down that annoying language selection pop-up on Tom's Hardware? I'd really like that (and no, English is not my native language).

Well it seems to be the hl=all that really does it. I was trying to change the URL for my Google default address in IE in the registry and in the URL string I added the hl=all& after search? which took it back to classic view. Thanks for the info.

Maybe its just me but isn't it way more convenient to just browse to google.com/m
or http://www.google.com/m for those who like to type more then they have to. The big pro about using google.com/m is that it is highly unlikely that google will change it any time soon if only because a load of mobile devices just wont play nice with anything "bigger" and for that reason has no adds at the side (though results on that might differ i am no genius) the downside would that you have to press CRTL+ a couple times to make things a bit more easy to read but then again thats really a one time move.

chuchuchui & Jane McEntegart:

I might be wrong (since you know ... i am no genius) but i dont think the the hl=all will do much for any one as soon as all the google servers are updated since for as far as i can figure it out it seems to be the selector for either language or location setting (google loves to set mine to hl=nl and switching to english language sets it to hl=eng)

[citation][nom]fooldog01[/nom]I guess I am int he minority but I tend to embrace these kinds of changes. Even *GASP* a Facebook layout change...[/citation]
haha..most widely moaned and complained about thing ever...stupid...and joining groups does nothing to change it.... they're so stupid sometimes

It's on the way out; should be gone in the next few weeks.

[citation][nom]otacon72[/nom]Why don't these companies learn, if it aint broke don't fix it!...damn.[/citation]
I couldnt agree more. Its like their going backwards. It looks like its in beta or something.

If they want it to be simple why do they need a logo at all? They could just type it out in Times New Roman.

I really don't see what the problem is; it's goal was probably to make it easier to find what you want faster and I'd say it does accomplish that pretty neatly, right?

If you install the Greasemonkey script, you can replace the one line that removes the panel with:

var code = "#sfcnt {margin-left:10px;} #leftnav {margin-left: 700px;} #center_col {margin-left:1px; margin-top:10px; border:0px;}";

and it will make it so the everything bar is on the right instead of the left...much better than what google did.

Or they could just give you the option to hide it.

The internet is saved from another attempted murder. Will google ever be prosecuted for this crime?

Thank god for firefox plugins or it would have been rip interwebz.

i just used the greasemonkey script and it worked flawlessly because the Quick access to Gmail wasn't available on the "http://www.google.com/webhp?hl=all&tab=iw" fix.
