500gb Hardrive taking more than 72 hours to format.

Hey another stupid storage question. but My harddrive has been formating since the 18th and its the 22nd. Its not even half way yet. Why is it taking so god damn long? its rather annoying cause all my christmas movies were on there and now I dont have anything to watch =/

It didn't want to connect to either my computer or my laptop and became unrecognizable in all the USB ports, it appears alright on my Granddads computer but you just cant access it. It worked fine the morning of the 18th, I ejected it from my pc to add some files to my laptop but it wouldnt work after that =/ My dad said do a quick format but after several attempts it comes up as failure. I have done a full format on it and its just reached a little over half way (10:23am 23rd Decem) but its getting annoying now.

Seagate, I've had it just over a year and my Grandad has the same one and hes had his longer and it works fine. =/

I cant test it while its formatting and I dont want to risk it by stopping it. Its moved on to about just under 3/4 done so hopefully Its done by tommorrow night if not Christmas morning. But in anycase thanks for the help :3

Depending on what letter your drive is, Cancel the format and open CMD. Type "Format D: /NTFS /Q" without quotations and replacing the letter "D" with the drive letter.
See how that goes, You may also be doing a Full Format. which can take quite a long time depending on how many blocks are written on the Drive.
A Quick format will be almost instant.

My uncle suggested that I don't cancel the format just yet. Its still only 3/4 the way, but I have turned off most of the things running to free up some space to let the computer run quicker. I will try your solution once its done I thank you for your advice :3

okay the format seems to have had no effect. But I have also tried this and it says ''Invalid parameter'' I think I typed it wrong or my computer is just being stupid aha

you hdd is filled with bad sectors, get an rma.

there is nothing you will be able to do now...that is not user repairable
