512mb vs 1gb graphics card

i am buying an HP dv7t. comes with free 6gb memory upgarade and 15-560mprocessor (2.66GHz 3mb cache boost 3.2GHz)
debateing on 512mb or 1gb graphics card. its $50 to uprade. do i need more than 512gb card? will it run faster im not a gamer but i'll
pay for anything that gives more speed.

Which two cards are they? The GPU is much more important than the memory on the card. Unless you are gaming at 1920x1200 or above 1GB wont provide a notable benefit.

A bigger monitor will require more VRAM.So if your running in 1080p you would want to have 1G.Usaslly 23" and above.

What exactly are you doing on the computer? Photoshop/Webrowsing?

i might play some games later and will be creating websites i forgot to mention that now that i think about it i should upgrade graphics instead of
i5 to i7 ?????????? im in the process of website design for business

would that be a reason to go to 1gb graphics

i'll have to upgrade the i5 to higher i5 or i7. or the 512mb to 1gb $50 to get Extra $250 discount
i have to spend $50 to save $200 thats why im asking. i can up grade my cpu or my graphics for free one or the other! imthinking the graphics cause both are more than i need, and i7 may get hotter and use up more battery? (again i dont need either one but have to choose one)

since i have your attention im 54 and know about PC,s but not the details on what is best. kinda do. ive researched PC, in this price range and with the dicount that ends in 2-4 days i have to decide on what extras to add for free.
(cpu or graphics) anyway what you think about backlit keyboards im almost going to go from 17" to 15" just to git it but dont think i can give up size for keyboard. what do you think about that?? i use wireless on everything i can and tv tuner would cpu or graphics (one help more than the other?) SPEED

didnt think it mattered 512mb to 1gb in general it is ATI MOBILITY RAEDON HD 5470 OR 1GB 5650
I DONT KNOW MUCH ABOUT GRAPHICS CARDS MY PC IS 6 YEARS OLD 120 GB MEMORY PENTIUM

actually the PC im buying and custimazing has more than what i need

but i have to add about $100-$150 between graphics card or cpu tto get $400 in discount

with everything so far i have i5-560m and 512gb graphics card

i have to upgrade one or the other either go to highe i5 or i7 and/ or ati 1gb graphics card i7 sounds good but not sure it will benufit me more than graphics plus i wonder about battery and heat

dont thinki need either one will but have to pick one. i do business , play lower end graphic games once in a while. the one thing im getting into is website design
thats it so 1gb graphics or i7 (in the long run)

The HD 5650M is much better than the HD 5470M, regardless of the amount of memory.

Since you are not doing all that much graphics(games), mostly 2D stuff (web pages), 512MB for graphics is fine. Your online speed is limited by the speed of your internet connection. All that being said, you would probably see more of an improvement by the CPU upgrade.
