I know everyone says a stock 6950 1GB is slightly faster than a stock 560 TI 1GB, but I have exactly $250 to spend and that would get me either a stock 6950 1GB or an OC'ed 560 TI 1GB.

My current system has the original I5 CPU in it with a 750W PSU and 8GB RAM. I have a 27" monitor with a max res of 1920x1080 and that's where I prefer to game at.

I mainly play RPG games like Skyrim, but do plan on playing the new Batman. I also play some of the 1st/3rd person shooters, but not heavy into those, and no WOW!

At $250 and not a penny more, other than S&H, which do you recommend?

If you intend to play the Batman games, then the GTX 560 Ti will be essential in order to enable the Physx features. Physx is not supported by the 6950.

Quote:
"Gamers looking to upgrade for Batman: Arkham City are probably best served by waiting for the game to be patched. But for those who just can't wait, for whatever reason, an NVIDIA GPU will give you the best gameplay experience in this game right now and down the road. Even when DX11 mode is fixed, AMD video cards still won't support PhysX in hardware. As always, gamers with giant monitors should be considering high-end video cards. An NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 will provide the best gameplay experience Arkham City is currently able to deliver. For gamers with a tighter budget, a GeForce GTX 570 is a fantastic performer and will allow the highest PhysX setting at high resolutions. For gamers with smaller displays, the GeForce GTX 560 Ti is still a fantastic option."

Skyrim has also been playing much better on Nvidia cards than AMD cards:
"AMD video cards have some performance issues in Skyrim, and we do hope that AMD can improve this with driver updates. It would be difficult to recommend an AMD video card to any gamer looking to upgrade his or her computer in order to play Skyrim. For this game at least, NVIDIA-GPU based current generation video cards is where it's at, whether you are packing a 30" monitor running at 2560x1600, a 1080p panel, or a multi-monitor gaming solution, they are simply faster."
"Gamers looking to upgrade their video cards for Skyrim should look at NVIDIA's offerings. For high-end enthusiasts, the single and dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 solutions both rocked the game out of the park, and the GeForce GTX 570 was close behind. Gamers with a more modest budget should consider the GeForce GTX 560 Ti as a solid option for 24" and smaller monitors."

Splendid
It is funny how some of the deves when making a game, some games work on Nividia better than AMD/ATI and just the reverse.

I guess it is what they like in prefernce to or it has something to with the game type. But I don't actually no for sure. I just see it all the time in different fourms.

The GTX 560 Ti would be my choice. That way in the future you could add another one and two of them together will do better than one 580. Just my little two cents worth

@OP
Since Batman AC is a TWIMBTBP game, it will mostly run great on nVidia cards, but the HD 6950 in Overall performance in faster than the GTX 560ti.

For that being said that Skyrim is not playable on AMD cards, totally wrong.
Skyrim is a CPU whore, you need to have a strong CPU to achieve a constant 60 FPS regardless what GPU you do have, and the HD 6950 can max it out @ ultra with 60 FPS

Checking out Newegg for your price range almost all the GTX 560 Ti's are $250 or less, so you can really go for one of the nice ones with good cooling and a factory overclock.

Here's the Asus DirectCU II TOP edition, which is their top of the line model with a 900 mhz overclock (vs. 822 mhz at stock):

If you don't mind rebates, here is the MSI Hawk at 950 mhz with a free game and free shipping:

For a cheaper option, the MSI Twin Frozr II which you can overclock yourself to match the performance of either of the more expensive models. Also comes with a free game and free shipping.
