Need help with choosing between the RipJaw DDR4 3200 vs 3300 as there is a $250 difference.

- Overview -

I've been waiting a long time for an 8-core as I'm sure most of you have. I'm looking to build an x99s platform with DDR4 32GB ram. Most likely an Nvidia 760 as i think the 980s are a bit pricey and I do not game as much anymore. I'd consider a Quattro card but know very little about them.

I have a quad-core build currently that ran on an ASUS motherboard which has been the biggest nightmare mobo I've ever purchased. Double posting, freezing, no recognistion of SSD drive, BSOD, Restarting, bla bla bla.

So I'm hesitant to buy a first generation mobo that supposedly supports the new i7s with x99 build. I have an MSI gaming laptop thats been great, but ive read some nasty reviews on Newegg regarding their Mobos. Dont know anything about AsRock or Gigabyte.

So amongst all my ramble. I'm excited and fearful. I want power and performance for rendering first before I go with gaming perks. However I do enjoy many of the popular games out now and play some competitive FPS, MMO, RPG games.

I use the Adobe suite, After Effects and Cinema4D as my bread and butter. Dual Monitor is a must!

Can you guys recommend me a good build?

i7 - 5960x
Nvidia - 760 or higher
DDR4 32 GB ram
A Fast SSD
Liquid Cooling Corsair Heat Sync
Mastercool case
Would most likely stick with Win7. Dont know much about the Ultimate, currently sporting the 7 Pro and 8.1 on the laptop which I'm not fond of.

$3.5k Budget more or less is fine.

Hmm. I do like the RAM. It is slower than I want, but would that make much of a difference. The MOBO has less options of upgrading compared to the ASUS I have on my list. The GPU looks good though. I'm pretty interested in the M.2 boot drive TBH

I feel maybe I could up my GPU and the RAM, but other than that I don't think I'd spring for that build. Dont see much improvement between that and mine.

I'll explain:
1, The 5960X is overkill, the 5930K is only a bit slower while saving 500$
2, CLC kits are often noisy, the Noctua cooler in my build will cool equally or better while being quieter
3, The X99-A is a very good board, no need for the bells and whistles of a 500$ board
4, DDR4-2800 would be the farthest I'd go as prices climb steeply the faster you go (and the difference is negligible, unless you want fast RAM to show off to your friends that your computer is faster than theirs in benchmarks:))
5, Plenty of storage for all of your projects
6, The 980 is better than the 780 as it's on Maxwell, it's newer and lots of other stuff.
7. The PSU is a Tier 1 unit, so you shouldn't have problems powering the build. SLI is also possible (maybe not 3-way, though).
8, I would suggest Windows 8.1 as it offers better features compared to Windows 7

If you'd like to 3-way SLI in the future, this PSU would be the one I'd recommend:

Thanks for the input. I'm wanting this for rendering/compositing before anything else. Why not go with the 8-core? What are your thoughts on a 12-core setup with a xenon chip set. I've really enjoyed my CPU water cooler. Think its the H70 I currently have. Haven't had any issues.
I really enjoy the Win 7 as it is so much more fluid with my workflow, unfortunatly. Even with 8.1 its still not quite there.
Want to get 32GB ram or even 64 is the price is right. I was really excited about the M.2. for my boot and program drive.

I do like your build, and knocking off a grand isnt bad. Although, I do have that money to spend. However I would like to bump up the Ram. Also I'm still pushing for the 8-core, and hell yes its expensive, but if the benchmarks arent much different then I'd go with the 6-core.

That 10-core beast has a crap ton of cache, including 25 MB of L3 cache!
Be prepared to pay the premium, though. It has a base price of 1199.99$ but Virginia sales tax has been applied (one of my family members live in Virginia and as I live in Canada, where prices are VERY high, I go there to pick up all of my PC stuff).

I tend to avoid all water coolers as:
1, They are costly
2, They are loud
3, The pumps/waterblock/reservoir can fail, and that is costly to replace
4, Would you like to have coolant dripping all over the place on your computer? I don't.
5, Air cooling, especially the Noctua NH-D14, are quieter and perform equally or better
6, Fans costs 5-15$, pumps and other water cooling stuff cost more to replace

I don't have an opinion on M.2 SSDs as they're not widely/commonly used i.e. they're not as omnipresent in builds like SATA right now, but maybe in a few years:)

Anything else?

If you really want to spend 500$ on a motherboard, the Rampage V Extreme would be my choice (I'm a gamer, after all) but you can stay with the WS as it's a workstation board.
2, You kinda forgot the HDD...
I would actually prefer something like the Corsair 900D as they don't impose CLC limits like other companies (cough cough Cooler Master HAF 912) but get the Cosmos if you really like it.
