[SOLVED] 6 screens - MST Hub or additional graphic cars

Hello,

sicne i dont find a correct answer i will ask anyway.

So i am trying to buld a 6 screen setup, wich will be devided - one side sim racing cockpit(4 screens), other side normal gaming, video editing browsing(2 screens)

I am looking to go for sth like that;

SIM COCKPIT:
3x24" 1080p will be used as nvidia sorround for sim gaming
top 25" ultrawide 1080p (or smaller) - discord, twitch etc.

DESKTOP:
27" or smaller (maybe 4k)
additional top monitor.

I currently have gtx 1070Ti, sim racing works great for now so no need for upgrade.

so what i am asking, is it better for me to buy a MST hub for arround 100$, or go for an additional GPU(in a range of 970).

i am confused, if a use an mst hub, if it will recognise my 3 screens in sorround as 1 monitor or 3?

You can only run 4 monitors on a 1070ti. MST hub will not give you more monitors.

so basically go for an additional card?i tought MST hub combines 3 monitors into 1 so that gpu recognises it as one :/

MST stands for multistream and there's a reason it only works with dp, because it's the only port that supports multiple streams on a single port. Each stream is its own video output signal. That means every monitor is seen as if you had 3 different cables. Hubs can vary from 2-6 monitors. But the 1070ti only supports 4 streams at once.

Dont know, theyre cheap here used and still decent, i would go for another 1070TI but dont know if that would make a difference in games if i go SLI?

And if i get this right, if i would hook my 3 sorround screens, and my main screen for desktop gaming to 1070ti, and just two additional screens to a lower card, my games would still run from the 1070ti right?and for additional screens (discord, twitch etc) i dont need such a good card...

Depends if they support sli. The games still use the 1070ti so a 970 (or similar) is just sucking more power for no reason vs a lower end card.

I wouldn't say any for 1 reason. Drivers. When nvidia moves a series to legacy, you can't have 2 different geforce drivers installed at once.

If I look at your 1070TI drivers on Nvidia's website and look in the "Supported products" of the drivers in question it gives you a list.

Just because they are on the same drivers now, doesn't mean they will be later. The whole point was "when they move a series to legacy." It's safest to stay with the same series, so a 10 series. A 1030 would be cheaper.

i dont even think i saw 1030s being sold here used i think imma go for 1050 (approx 60€ used).

ok just one more thing...i was thinking of getting samsung 28" 4k screen for my additional setup...but i am conserned if my 1070ti wil even allow to hook up 3x1080p + 4k screen?tehnically speaking?because i see max resolution for 1070ti is 7680x4320@60Hz

and if i add all up 3x1080p + 4k = 9600px width...

but on the other hand currently i have 3x1080p + 2560p ultrawide wich is also more then 7680px...

or does it not work like that?

i dont wanna buy a 4k and then realize i will not be able to run it...and im gonna go for gt1030 for my extra card

Max res is per port not total. Although that max is for dp. The other ports have lower limits.
