I was looking at some graphics cards for around $100 and saw the gtx465 and a gtx550ti on newegg for about $130 each. so i was wondering do i want the faster gpu or the more cores?

i play WoW, LoL. Portal 2, and Diablo 3 when ever it comes out. maybe starwars mmo not sure yet.
my cpu is 555be althon x2 @ 3.2ghz or something like that with 8gigs 1333 ddr3 memory

Don't waste your time with a crappy gtx 465. There are very few reasons to get a 465 over a gtx 450, gtx 460, or a gtx 550ti. Power consumption is terrible and overclocking is very much limited compared to other cards. A gtx 460 on paper is what a gaming quality card should be however they are different once you own one. The quality of the pcb is decent but cooling is terrible on most cards and even when the cooling for the core is good the rest of the card is often going over 100c+ in spots. The power vrm on these cards is known to go up to 153c at the worst of times and slowly degrade. 3 months to a year is the average life of a gtx 460 with daily use.
forget all those numbers you just wrote and read a review. The gtx465 would be faster, but it chews up a lot of power and you will need a good quality 500w PSU to run it. and they get HOT, so good case ventillation is required. If you ahve a generic psu or a psu that came with the case you bought you can forget about getting either one of them.

i have a 550watt with 2 6pin concectors, ran a gtx460 just fine. i gave that one to my brother and am useing my gt9800. i then noticed my 3d tv wasnt playing it in 3d anymore so i thought i should just get a new card again.

what brand is your PSU also, the gtx 460 is a much different card than the 465. if performs almost as well and is much cooler and less power hungry because it is based on a different chip. just something to keep in mind.
