Hey!

I have trouble to decide between a Seasonic S12II 620W PSU and a Seasonic S12II 520W PSU.

My build :

PSU : Spire ATX 420w PFC-N-PSU (Current psu)
CPU : AMD FX(tm)-4170 Quad-Core 4,20 ghz
CPU Cooler : The CPU Cooler include with the CPU
Memory : 8 go (2x4 go)
Motherboard : msi ms 7641 ver 4.0
Video Card : AMD Radeon HD 6450 1go
Storage : 2x Western digital green 2000 Go (2x2000go)
Operating system : Windows 7

Yes it's a bad build but the pc work !

The 620w psu won't affect the performance of the pc ?
What is the best in efficiency for this build, alsoi will change the cpu cooler and GPU in the future.

Thank you in advance

Hi,
Without question the quality of the psu you are thinking of (which can indeed be questioned);
Req. Radeon 4650 - 24A and a 350-400W PSU minimum

As a baseline: a PSU with 40-50% 'over power' than the req. will make the PSU most efficient and it can handle the GPU power (amp really) peaks in a short bursts.
A good PSU with silver or gold standard has a very low disturbance and clean voltage through the distributions of the power lines.
Go for a 80+ PSU

So what do the different 80 Plus ratings mean?

The basic 80 Plus rating means that the PSU is rated for at least 80% efficiency at 20% load, 50% load, and 100% load.

The 80 Plus Bronze rating means that the PSU is rated for at least 82% efficiency at 20% load, 85% at 50% load, and 82% at 100% load.

The 80 Plus Silver rating means that the PSU is rated for at least 85% efficiency at 20% load, 88% at 50% load, and 85% at 100% load.

The 80 Plus Gold rating meas that the PSU is rated for at least 87% efficiency at 20% load, 90% at 50% load, and 87% at 100% load.

The 80 Plus Platinum(bet you didn't know there was a Platinum) rating means that the PSU is rated for at least 90% efficiency at 20% load, 92% at 50% load, and 89% at 100% load.

Now, that doesn't mean that the PSUs perform exactly at those numbers, but they are close enough, and of course you probably aren't going to use exactly 50% load or whatever, but it is close enough to give a good idea of what a PSU is capable of.

Best regards from Sweden
