Hi All,
I have an application that needs 64gb ram. I understand that LGA2011-3 cpus can. Can anyone confirm which other non-server CPUs can deal with 64GB.
Thanks

For 64GB on a desktop motherboard, you're mostly going to be looking at newer platforms with DDR4 RAM, which offers higher density sticks. LGA 2011v3 can handle 64GB easily. Skylake CPUs on the LGA 1151 platform can also handle up to 64GB provided you get a motherboard with 4 DIMM slots and DDR4 RAM support, in both cases you'd be using four 16GB sticks of RAM.

If you want to use 64GB of DDR3, then you'd have to look at some of the older LGA 2011 CPUs, like the i7 4820k, which can do 64GB of RAM with eight 8GB sticks of DDR3.
Forensic software does. I run 32GB and sometimes even this not enough. Therefore my question about which chipsets will handled 64GB and which motherboards will have 8 dimm slots. Just looking for a different solution than either Opteron/Xeon or Haswell-E cpus
