i5 4670k and an r9 290 (probably sapphire), both to be overclocked.

Should I go for a 650w gold or a 750w bronze for the psu?

Solution
They will both essentially perform the same function. The gold one would use slightly less power and generate slightly less heat, so as long as they are pretty much the same price I would go for that one.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the EVGA SuperNova 650W 80+GOLD Fully-Modular Power Supply and about the EVGA SuperNova NEX750B 750W 80+Bronze Semi-Modular Power Supply
My choice would be the 80+ gold one cuz it's fully modular

Actually, the XFX 550W Core Edition (80+ Bronze) is considered better than the Corsair RM 550 (80+ Gold).

This is because the RM uses bad capacitors that fail more than quality capacitors should and may cause some heat issues. So efficiency is not always related to the quality of the PSU.
