I have had a 6800 XT for a while now and I am curious on temps. This has become a concern because I am trying to OC. With the settings on default the card will idle at 60C and during games can hit 90C. For OC when the power limit slider is adjusted to 15%. Temps sky rocket to the junction throttle limit of 110*C. Without changing any of the frequency values. Are these numbers normal?

System Specs:
ASUS Tuf Z690 D4 Wifi
I7 12700k
6800 XT Reference Edition
EVGA SuperNova 850W Gold
Corsair 4000D Case
Front mounted 360mm AIO
3 Top exhaust fans

Ended up removing all software related to overclocking. Used AMD's built in performance tuning, before I was not able to adjust the voltage but now I can. Undervolted from 1150 to 1025, Slightly adjusted fan curve, +15% PWS, 2450 and stable. Results are a max junction of 82C and not 115C, with 'edge' temps being 50-66C. I will look into the washer mod with maybe some thermal paste if the problem continues. Thank you all for your help.
Wow, 10C is a huge change...
Card sag - not seeing any noticeable sag in the images though... or by turning the case on its side, you've improved bottom air intake to the card?

Drivers can do that - usually an overclock profile, running with no fps caps, or AMD's own version of Max Performance Power Management Mode.

Does it make sense to take apart the card and inspect/reseat the cooler? Or does that risk destroying thermal pads.

Does it over heat on all games? I have a 6900XT it I've seen it get pretty hot, close to 100C if I don't limit the frames.

I've seen that sometimes mounting pressure can be an issue & people use small platic washers under the spring plate to adjust tension and improve temps.

You might want to consider trying the washer trick and see if that works prior to a full tear down.

Also in Adrenalin software you can click on the game & use AMD cool & quiet. That will allow you to reduce FPS when still in the game and helps to keep things from getting heat soaked

Can I just add the washers without removing the thermal pads (will they rip?). And I have some small washers from an old AIO mounting plate. Would those work well or is it best to do plastic?

From what I've ready you just take the back cover off and that's it. 9mmX0.5mm plastic or silicone washers would be best. I've read of people using up to 1mm thick silicone washers, but that's a bigger risk of over tightening. I haven't done the mod yet. Waiting for worse cooling issues. If you do decide to repaste you'll want to make sure you have extra thermal pads ready. SYY is supposed to be a great paste to use, super thick so it doesn't pump out like the thinner paste.

Put some washers on it. Made temps shoot to max event at a menu screen.. So that did not work. Used 1MM washers
