6800GS vs 7800GT

i agree but im saying is it worth the money i mean im no tinto eye-candy i like the game for its game play

i play Starseige Tribes (Tribes 1) the game is like 8 or 9 years old

I just completed (2-25-06 at 2:30 am) F.E.A.R. on a rig that I built expressly for playing games. It is equipped with a Evga 6800gs video card. It looked absolutely beautiful and ran as smooth as silk! The card is bone stock! I have attempted no overclocking whatsoever! All settings are set on medium or high with soft shadows enabled and anisotropic filtering set to 4X. As long as the maximum resolution of your monitor is 1280x1024 @ 75mhz refresh rate I see no need for 7800gt. Also according to X-Bit Labs the 6800gs will over clock like an s.o.b. if you are interested! My system---Amd Sempron 3400+ cpu, Evga 6800gs pci-e video card, Asrock K8nf4g-sata2 motherboard, 19 inch CMV CT-934D lcd monitor, 2gb ram (2x1gb sticks) A-Data D400, Hitachi Deskstar 7k80 sata2 80gb harddrive, Sony DW-Q30ABK dvd/rw drive, NEC floppy drive and Athenatech A301BS micro atx case. All of it purchased at the best online store in the world for computer parts. Newegg!! Just thought that I would mention that SOFT SHADOWS WAS ENABLED again!!!

the GS is capable of scoring 5000 - 5500 in 3dmark 05, GT is capable of getting ~7000 i think. The numbers speak for themselves. Yes the GT is a "better performer" than a GS. The question is do you want to spend the extra money.

I have a GS....at the time of purchase they were about 33% cheaper than a GT, and i read that it was a solid performer.

I get 60 - >100 fps in hl consistently and i played thru FEAR (the game was lame...) no problem at pretty much max settings.

If you HAVE the money and WANT the extra performance, get the GT...if your upgrading from something rather old but don't need top performance cus your playing Tribes (some may not consider a gt top, but its up there) get the GS.

Im pleased with my GS. The real test will be is it good in a year. My guess is yes it will play everything in a year, but i may need to play with some settings at medium/high instead of max.

One last thing to consider is the frequency of your upgrades. If your the type of person that likes to upgrade every 1 - 1.5 years, i would say go with the GS and wait a year and a half and buy a newer card that trumps all the current cards (but of course probably doesn't beat the the best at that time). If you don't wanna upgrade for a long time, that is another reason to buy a better card now. Also, eVGA has a step-up program where you can buy a GS and upgrade to a better card if you want to in like 90 days (not totally sure of the specs, but its something you might wan to consider).

Anyways, im hardly a computer expert, im just trying to help you rationalize your choice. Either way youll probably be pleased.

thats what u say but when u look at your wallet the eye candy isnt worth it on the screen its worth it in your wallet so i think im stickin with my decision . 6800GS

also quick question]

^800GT 6800GS 6800XT

i believe GS is the best but i read that on a google search is it the best?

does anyone actually read the questions.. 😳

hey, ive got a XFX 6800GS PCIE 'XXX' Edition. and i have no problem running games..

im running:
Athlon64 3000+ 'Venice' @ 2.4Ghz - Jabbed into a
ASUS A8N-SLI with 2GB RAM
with one xfx 6800GS xxx (might get the next one soon..

I run FEAR at max with SS & AA off with x16 Anisotropic filtering.
and the test results display 0% under 25, 0% between 25-40 and 100% over 40..

its still perfectly playable with AA on but i prefer those extra few fps..

and net games run even better.

I say go for the 6800GS upgrade later if need be..

PCIE version of the GS is very good.. it is reference clocked at 425/1000 (i think)and is produced at 110nm i believe(well i cant remember but its a step smaller than the other 6x00 series cards and as such overclocks with major ass wiping..

the cooling isn't all that fantastic.. mine is a factory overclocked one at 485/1100. where i live it gets mighty hot(and even worse now coz its summer) and my ambient temps are at idle 40-45 on a 30c day and under load in fear were.. 75c(rare) but i removed the stupid graphics plate that covers the HSF and mounted a K7 fan on it and put a HS on the back side of it which gets hot.. now my cards max temps are 55c and i cant wait till winter to test it out.. im hoping for some 30-35c load temps but more.

I get average 5900 in 3dmark05 and i know i will be able to get more out of it. maybe around 65/6600 or so.. which i think is pretty good.. i can overclock to 525/1280. but i it can go higher without artifacts.. but i dont like going to high in summer..

I believe your decision was wise.. in my view the 7 series cards are nice and fast but it seems like more of the same... granted its faster and more efficient.
