Hello good people!

I am currently using 2 x 2gb (4gb in total) of 8500C5D DDR2 1066 Ram MATCHED with my Gigabyte ep45 ds3 motherboard.

I would like to add 2x 1gb (2gb in total) of 8500C5D MATCHED to my computer.

Will it work smoothly?

I'm a total noob

When Windows uses all the RAM, it will use the HDD Virtual Memory. If you put 4GB more, the Windows will have more RAM to use, and maybe it will never use the HDD Virtual Memory. In this scenario, yes, it will run smoother. But it will not run faster, it depends of CPU. I have two q6600@3.4 with 8GB RAM, and they were runing pretty well for about 7 years, using programs like Photoshop, 3D Studio, CAD systems... And still working. Is still a great PC fore a lot of programs. You can try to instal more 4GB RAM and use your PC a little more time. You can also try to overclock a little bit your CPU if you uses CPU intensive programs.
If you're running a 64 bit version of windows you will have no problem utilising 8 GB of memory. DDR2 just means you're limited to slower and quite often more expensive memory modules.
Depending on the rest of your system and what you plan to use it for, you may be better off holding off and saving for a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM.
As to will it run smoothly, I can't honestly say. I sent my old laptop in to have the memory upgraded and it came back with two completely mismatched modules yet still ran fine but have heard stories to the contrary.

Yes, everything will work great. However it's best if you don't spend much money since your platform is old. You won't notice a lot of differences. Some games will run better, but overall it won't change much.

Thank you for the replies.

I just want to have two DAW programs running and multiple amounts of web browser tabs and when I do my 4gb is pretty much being used all up. I don't mind making the 100 dollar sacrifice.
Would you guys recommend the 6gb or 8gb?
