So, i have a samsung 720p tv that i use with my ps4 (pro), i use this tv until i buy a gaming monitor. Now this tv is 720p, but when i put it on 1080p and turn the sharpness down i get a much better picture. I know that some tv's say it's 1080p but downscales it to 720p, or it displays 1080i, but when putting the ps4 resolution setting to automatic i takes 1080p and not 1080i, but i don't really know what my tv is actually displaying because it looks way better then 720p.

Solution
A 720p tv accepts an input resolution of 1080p, which is what your ps4 is showing. However, it will definitely downscale the pictures because there are not enough pixels to actually display the image in 1080p.

Lol why did you downvote my answer? I am absolutely correct. If it looks better to you at 1080p, it is probably has to do with the game running smoother at its native resolution. It is most definitely not because your tv is secretly 1080p.
