Question 7600 vs 7600x

I have been doing some research into these two CPU's.

As I understand, from a gaming perspective they are quite close performance wise. The 7600 draws less power and potentially would not require the same cooling as its more expensive counterparts. This sounds appealing to me as I will only be playing some 1440p games casually.

Generally speaking I see people recommend the 7600 based on prices of the past. These days however they seem to be priced quite close to each other.

My question is - how much more cost would make it worth it buying the 7600x? Also - is there an obvious alternative I am not considering?

Simple answer = If they cost the same, get the higher spec'd model.

Where are you located and how much are you seeing the 7600 and 7600x listed for?

So the difference in price right now is about 14 bucks, for just the coolers, however the 7600x does not come with a cooler so you are going to have an additional expense of probably around 30 bucks or more there. The difference in performance is less than five percent so to me, totally not worth it.

UK

7600 is £182
7600x is £208

I wouldn't use the stock cooler with the 7600 and would probably by an air cooler regardless so that extra cost is not part of the equation.

Is it worth the extra money?

Not in this case. They can't be the same price because the 7600x doesn't come with a cooler, so price difference is more like 45 bucks at minimum considering 14 dollars for the higher tiered CPU plus a capable enough cooler to handle it.

Given the fact the 7600 doesn't draw as much power, and therefore doesn't create as much heat - I am leaning towards an air cooler rather than an AIO. An AIO seems like it would be overkill.

If going for the 7600 - could you please recommend me a few of the best performing air coolers for this?

If you want to use air and you don't want to spend any more money than necessary, this is the cooler I'd recommend and unlike the Wraith Stealth that CPU comes with, this won't ramp/spool up and down frequently to the point where it drives you insane. Plus, it has much better cooling capability.

If you want something more capable than that, and I'll tell you that is a very good budget cooler which I've used on a number of Ryzen systems including 5600G, 5600x, etc., and some of the Intel i5's from the last couple of Gens, in case you decide to upgrade to a higher TDP processor later at some point and won't want to have to replace the cooler again to assure adequate cooling, this would be a great choice.

And yes, you're right, you don't need an AIO for that CPU unless it's simply for aesthetic reasons.
