i have a asrock g41c-gs r2.0 i want to get a x5460 because my cpu is dieing and i have a q9400 right now and 8gb ddr3 1066 ripjaws and a gtx 1050 550w psu and a hyper t2 cooler will this work at all with out bios mod

The sockets 771 775 are in principle incompatible, but with a small physical modification in the processor X5460 and the mobo, it can be used in a 775 mobo.

Nevertheless, most of the X5460 that are sold on the internet (but not all) have already made these adaptations so that you do not have to physically modify neithr the cpu nor the mobo. When you buy it, make sure it is adapted.

It is normally commented that to obtain the maximum benefit of the X5460, the microcode of the bios must be updated to include that of the X5460. I think that if you use windows 10 it is not necessary because the microcode is updated dynamically.

I recommend that you read carefully the links that I attach. Ignore everything related to physically modifying the mobo or the cpu since it will buy a modified cpu.

LGA771 and LGA 775 have different physical pin configurations. An LGA771 processor won't be able to work in the socket on your motherboard without a sketchy-looking adapter

ik im planning on getting the adapter and using it im just wondering if it will boot and i can use it im buying the adapter with it if it does if i need to cut it the be it im going to cut the motherboard and the cpu will fit when u cut it or get a cut cpu to fit the socket idk if it wil,post and sy its a xeon x5460

There is a reason it isn't on the list.
It would be on the list if ASROCK thought it should be on the list.

You can get an X5460 for like $18 on Ebay. So why not just try it?

As a side note, as someone who uses aliexpress a lot, I don't recommend buying electronics from aliexpress. The shipping is very slow and you are more likely to get damaged and counterfeit parts.

Although there is always a risk because it is a second-hand cpus that have been in a server 24x7 all indicates that you can put it in your mobo. On the seller's page, he indicates the G41 chipset as one of those who accept it and on the page www.delidded.com he mentions his mobo as one of those who accept it.

Be careful when placing it in the socket and do a full bios reset.
