Hi
For 2 days I have had a 7800x3d with Gigabyte b650 gaming x v2 and 32 GB RAM 6000 MHz with EXPO enabled. The cooling is Fortis 5, SPC Supremo 550w power supply, RTX 4070. I was aware that the cooling may be too weak, so I immediately tried undervolting. Just lowering vsoc from 1.25 to 1.15 without PBO gives CB R23 18550 points, maximum temperature of 85C and an effective clock of 4890MHz. When I added CO -20 or -25, the situation did not change much - 18470 points, clock 4850 MHz, temperature 84.5. . Adding a limit of 80w, 85w or a temperature limit of 85C did not change much. It turned out that between lowering vsoc and using PBO, the differences in the CB R23 result and temperatures are minimal and Fortis is doing quite well. When it comes to games, currently I only have Avowed and during the game the clocks oscillate around 5GHz, the temperatures are 65-75C. My question: taking into account the components, especially the average cooler, are these results ok? Is there any way to lower temperatures without losing performance using PBO? Or maybe it doesn't make sense and i can leave it as it is?

how much points do you get without the tuning you made?
looks well though
I haven't tested it on stock settings yet because I was afraid of too high temperatures 😀 I'll check this afternoon and let you know

I performed the test using default settings. Only EXPO enabled. The result in CB R23 is 17967, max temp 85.5C. Effective core clocks 4,906hz max. I also performed tests with various settings, e.g.:
-VSoc 1.15
-CO -25
-Thermal limit 80C + PPT 75w
-PPT 85W + CO -25
- VSoc 1.15 + CO -25
Interestingly, in each of these cases the CB R23 result oscillated between 18510-18644 Temperature 84-85C (Except thermal limit setting, then max temp 81C), Effective Core Clocks 4,860-4,922mhz max. The highest score 18644 i achieve with VSoc 1.15+ CO -25 with 4,922 mhz and 85C.As you can see in my case the differences between the settings are minimal and the difference between stock and pbo is also small. The 7800x3d seems to work very well straight out of the box. The temperature is also a surprise. I knew that x3D processors are warm. I was convinced that with a cooler like Fortis 5 in CB R23 I would see temperatures well above 90C. These 85C max are a pleasant surprise, and in games it is known that there will be 15C less. To all those who want or have just bought a 7800x3d and for whom gaming performance is important, not the numbers in Cinebench: do not waste time on BIOS settings and benchmarks. Alternatively, set the BIOS CO to -20 or -25 and VSoc to 1.15 and that's it I'm glad that instead of spending my free time in the next few days on settings and benchmarks, I will be able to simply enjoy using the improved computer. It's true that I'm playing Avowed now and this game has bad optimization and stutter occurs even on the best hardware, but in average FPS and 1% low there is a big difference compared to Ryzen 5600.
