Would purchasing the Ryzen 7800X3D worth it at this point for gaming? It’s currently marked at around $25-50 above MSRP at this point.

One option is to wait until the 9800X3D release (tentatively Nov 7th)…though not sure what the cost will be. Also, do you think the new CPU series will be stable with current AM5 compatible motherboards on launch? Or will it take a while for the motherboard manufacturers to release stable BIOS updates for it?

If the main thing you do is gaming then yes, the 7800X3D may be worth it assuming its at a good price where you live. That said, the 9800X3D will be better (presumably) at everything and on a modern platform but it will have a higher price.

I have no reason to believe it won't.

Thank you. And is the 7800x3D more than enough for 4K gaming of max settings, assuming I'll be using the RTX 4080 Super? Just trying to debate whether the extra juice from the CPU by the 9800x3D would make any worthy gain compared to the 7800x3D when paring with that GPU.

You certainly shouldn't be rushing to pay over MSRP for an existing product especially when the next one is a couple of weeks out. If all you do is play games either the 7800X3D or 9800X3D will undoubtedly be great.

AMD confirmed they will be releasing the new chips on November 7th and the comparison you ask about (7800X3D vs 9800X3D) is pretty much guarantied to be covered by every single youtube tech/computer channel as well as AMD themselves (although first party results must be taken with some skepticism). I would suggest you wait until then when you will have all the information you need to make an informed choice. As a bonus, if you then choose to go with the 7800X3D, the price will likely have fallen by then.

4K gaming max settings if your using the native resolution then I see no reason to even be looking at the expensive X3D chips.

Your going to be more limited by the video card a nice 7700X would do fine. If you were playing FPS games @1080p then yes the faster chip but your saying 4K max settings (video card limited)

This is @ 1080p.

Decent video you can watch or just skip to the 14:30 mark for the results.

That's pretty good point. Now I'm confused about this ~8% increase in gaming performance they are referring to in the 9800X3D in comparison to the 7800X3D in the leaked data that's online.

The 9800X3D isn't out yet, so there is no true data on the real world performance VS the 7800X3D.

Wait for it to release, and for reviews, then decide.
If nothing else the price should come down on the 7800X3D once stock starts coming in on the new.

At the all time low of $339 the 7800X3D was an absolute steal for the performance. Now that it's $475-500 if you can find it in stock, there really isn't a good argument to buy it anymore given how soon the 9800X3D will come out.

All leaked benchmark indicators show a fairly decent gaming and productivity boost for the 9800X3D and pricing is looking like it'll be between $449-500. So if you wait two weeks, the 9800X3D will be basically the same price as the 7800X3D but newer and better.

It is likely that some motherboards will be slower to pick up BIOS updates, but usually they're pretty good about having those ready to go at release or fairly soon after.

Well after some waiting, the 9800X3D is finally released but already sold out during first minute of launch (thank you scalpers). Not sure when they will go back in stock. Should I just go with the 7800X3D at this point? Although it’s worth around the same as the MSRP of 9800X3D, I’m not sure when the 9800X3D will come back in stock.
