Question 7900 XT vs 7800 XT

So I'm planning on buying one of those two cards during Black Friday, but idk which one has more value (assume a $750 price for the 7900 XT).

The 7900 SHOULD be way more powerful, but I've seen some benchmarks that worry me. For example Starfield performs basically the same in both cards at 4K, not sure if it's worth paying for that 50% premium

Starfield is an outlier as it is very unoptimized. Heck even my RX 6800 gets within margin of error territory of a 3090!

Ok so what do you think? Is it worth to pay 50% extra for that 7900 XT? Im also thinking about the longevity of the cards, I have no intention to upgrade in at least another 5 years

If you intend to game at 4K, then get the RX 7900 XT but if you intend to game at 1440p, get the RX 7800 XT. Hell, on Black Friday, you might even find an incredible deal on an RX 6800 XT.

If you can afford it (or find a good deal) you could go for a 7900xtx which means you would be set for 4k.

If they had released the 7800xt alongside the 7900xt and the 7900 xt was its current price, I would be stuck like you. I originally wanted a 7800xt but that was long before we knew what it was. But I jumped and got a 7900xt and haven't really regretted it yet.

I don't really have a 144 Hz monitor, 4K 60 FPS is enough for me really, so as long as the card i have holds for that long with those fps, I'm set

You may be able to run a 7900xtx on that PSU because your CPU is only 65w, and if you're going to game at 4k the 5600x probably will not bottleneck it.

Yeah there's very little (if any) bottleneck at 4k.

Will check prices on black Friday, the XT got significant price drops, but the XTX not so much

If it doesn't drop significantly I will not be able to afford it

A 7900 XT can easily do 4k 60.... i see scores up to 90 on it in some games. 5 years ago I had a 4k screen but swapped to 2k as it was the resolution windows ran it on desktop anyway. At time my gpu couldn't run it at 4k 60 max settings anyway.

RT will reduce its scores but you should know that buying AMD.

I think that Jayden is referring to the deal that I got on my ASRock Radeon RX 7900 XTX Phantom Gaming OC that I bought as an open-box item from Newegg in Canada for $1,148CAD ($849USD). Newegg's current price on it is $950 so that's more than $100USD off the price of a new one. Meanwhile, I still get ASRock's 3-year factory warranty and the card works flawlessly. It didn't include the Starfield bundle but I already had the standard game because of an RX 6600 that I purchased specifically to get the game.

Then I accidentally scammed Starfield Premium from Newegg so I got that too. I'm not joking about that, I really did scam the game by accident. I think that the standard code would be a good b-day present for one of my friends.

Not that many RT games that its really a problem. Apart from Switch 2, all the consoles use AMD so unlikely to have many games that are heavy RT coming from them for a while. And in a lot of cases, the AMD cards can equal Nvidia with RT on.

Vast majority of games don't have it and raster is one spot AMD seem to win most games now.

It's not that Radeons aren't good with RT, it's just that they're a generation behind. My RX 7900 XTX's resilience to RT falls somewhere between the RTX 3090 and RTX 3090 Ti.

Now I ask you, when's the last time you heard someone refer to an RTX 3090 or 3090 Ti as "not great with RT"? I've never heard it. People just seem to move the goalposts when it comes to RT on a Radeon.

3090 ti was 5k AUD in 2020, My 7900xt wasn't even 2k which is where price of 4080 started. . I think that was value for money... here, its price hasn't dropped as much as US., its starting price was also higher. They not as common I think as you can't buy my model here. Its been out of stock for a while now.
