So, i used to own 2 6970's which used to run bf3 fine, but had to give them away to a friend.
So i decided to buy 2 Gigabyte 7970's thinking these would last me a few years.

ran Bf3 for a few days running perfectly over 100FPS, but now cant seem to get more than 60 unless scoped in with sniper. I ran MSI afterburner to check if CF was working properly, which it was but cards were running from 55-70% which i'm wondering if that is the issue? Running metro 2033 runs superb, averaging the performance it should be and running at 90%+usage..
Boarderlands two seems to be having the same issue as BF3.. The campaign on the other hand runs 90%+ like it should also.

Specs:
Asus Rampage Extreme III
i7 960 3.2Ghz
12gb G.skill Sniper 1600hz Ram
2x Gigabyte 7970 GV-R7970OC-3GB
TX-850
Corsair GT 120gb
12.11 Beta Drivers (I've tried others, with no change)
Samsung S27A750 120Hz

Reformatted to Windows8 hoping for Better performance but Nothing. (Reason for the two cards on 1 screen, is to get the 120fps+ on gaming to look nice at 120hz..)

One more idea. If you haven't deleted the drivers yet...go back into CCC and put the AA mode back to override application settings. Lower it to around the middle of the options and see if that helps the usage...if it does, you can then play around with the settings and see what works best for your setup.

Possiblitiy of Bios being changed isnt 1, ive tried setting to defults already, and i believe the Bios is up2 date already.
I can go try a different PSU tonight and see if maybe the PSU isnt drawing enough power?

for the 8x slots.. They are all 16x on that motherboard.

sorry keep needing to add haha =s
just checked BIOS's on Asus website. It says with most updated Bios please install
IRST? would that be an issue if i dont? didnt think i installed it if i had that bios
also, I use 2 CF cables anyways because of this issue, ive tried with single and dual no difference..

Since it did get max usage when you did the override for AA, I was wondering if that might be a route to take...just keep bumping the aa down and see if the usage still stays high, or if it goes back to around 50%

As for the bios, I'm not really certain. I know that on my board, rampage extreme iv, asus recommends that I update the bios prior to running windows 8. I haven't messed with it since I am still running 7 and don't really have a desire to change to 8 yet.

I just looked at the Asus website regarding your bios. As long as you aren't running a hard drive over 2.2TB, I wouldn't bother with updating that bios...unless you are running on the original bios that was installed when the board came out. As long as you are running the 2011.07.02 bios, I wouldn't bother updating it past that one. IRST is intel rapid storage manager. You'd need to have the 10.5 version running prior to updating the bios to the newest one...agian, it probably would be a waste of time to update to that version.

I think im running the latest bios, as i got it, the first thing i did was update the bios, and they havent updated the bios since then. (because of newer edition of board.)

Ill try the AA setting when i get home from work. (2hrs)
i also sent mail just now to Gigabyte linking this thread, hopefully they can give more help..

Did you by chance install any of the Asus utilities, like turbo evo or ROG connect? If so, I'd recommend uninstalling them. The only thing you should load from asus should be their drivers. Their software can have conflict issues. Also, did you disable the onboard audio options in bios? That could be another conflict issue.

Sorry no, with this newest install i kept it clean and installed only the Catalyst drivers to eliminate all driver issues with no success.
I havent disabled onboard audio either, ill try this also when i get home.

Disabling onboard audio probably won't help with the current issue, but it is good to disable since you have a pci sound card. Does your board have any kind of onboard video? I don't think it does, but double check to make sure that it is disabled if it has it.

I just read through your manual again...a couple of things that might help....

Disable CPU and PCIE spread spectrum. If you are curious about spread spectrum, I can find a good link to describe it...but basically it deals with how EFI emissions are dealt with. I can't remember if it is an EPA or FCC requirement to have it as an option.

Unless you are utilizing it, disable intel virtulaziation tech and also intel vt-d

okay so i disabled those setting, No change, when i turned everything Up full in CCC Except triple Buffering and kept catlyst A.I. defult, their was an improvement of about 10% wierdest thing is.. The Dips in Usage were occuring when their was alot going on..
when not, they were pegging 85%+ but as soon as as it became action, the usage when down, when course it should be going up!??

Alright, well atleast now we are seeing some changes! Put the triple bufferring back on...this should help with the dip issue. Keep it in override application settings, morphilogical filtering on, 8xEQ and filter to standard. Antistropic flitering, put it at 8x for now. Tessilation, amd optimized. Catalyst A.I. put it to high quality or quality, and enable surface optimization. Vertical refresh off. Anti-aliasing mode, super-sample AA. Make sure to use the application profile from the list for crossfire, or AFR or optimize.

You can go back in and tweak these settings again after this test...right now I just want to see if it will stay at high usage with these settings.

yea i am, they were already up full. It is the same thing that is happening in borderlands,
this is what i was saying on first comment, how the usage would go up when zoomed and the cards are Less stressed when the usage should go down when zooming and and when un-zoomed the usage goes down when rather it should go up...

That is what is still having me scratch my head....also when you went to a full on override with edge detect your usage stayed up high, though your FPS dropped (which it should).

Right now, i think the best thing to would be to completely get rid of CCC and use only in game settings. Something is conflicting and telling the cards to throttle back when they shouldn't.

Note...before you do either of the below, make sure you first uninstall the application profiles. Also, make sure that msi afterburner, and any other overclocking and monitoring software is uninstalled.

In order to fully remove the drivers, and everything else AMD related, you can do this one of two ways. Atiman is a completely automatic uninstaller that I haven't had any issues with but some do report issues. Here is a link for the download, the process is self explanitory but you will need admin rights to run the software...

The other option is to do it manully, which is tedious but not difficult.

After you do that, do a custom install of the most current drivers (either the official 12.10 or the beta 12.11). When you do the install, only select the video card drivers.

After the install is done, disable ULPS. To disable ulps, type regedit in the run box in the windows start menu. Hit ctrl + f, then type enableulps. This will bring you into a folder that should be labelled as 000, in there double click the enableulps command line, change the value to 0. Also, below that there is a enableulps NA command line, change that to 0 also...shouldn't have any effect but it is worth disabling as well. Then go into folder 001 and do the same as above.

Restart the computer. You now will not have CCC, so you will have to use in game settings only...there are a few good aftermarket programs to replace CCC, but I'll go into that after doing this part.

okay so done all that, Not any noticable difference, just kinda sempt slow the whole time unless in base which stayed around 90frames, rest of time was like 40-60..

in the Registry there is a setting called EnableCrossfireAutoLink which is set to 0? should that be 1?

Enablecrossfireautolink stays at 0. Even if you try to change it, it will revert back to 0.

Ok now that CCC is uninstalled, download a program called radeon pro tools. Use that to set up the game settings. You will need to setup a custom profile for each game you play.

No results no matter how high or low settings where changed... =(
sigh..
when i tab out though, there is a X in the corner of the program whilst the game is running, and none of the FPS counters show up,
a sign of it not running?

Last idea for the night would be ati tray tools. But I'm not really sure how to use that program...have heard a lot of good things about it though. Just make sure to uninstall radeon pro tools first

okay so installed it, "Can not initialize ATIPDLXX library! Exiting now" This error came up, someone suggesting download "ATIPDLXX.dll"
Dl'd that, sempt to work, program started running. Then locked computer, Reset, then lock on startup. Had to boot safe mode and uninstall.. =(

I kinda doubt that gigabyte will be much help. Honestly at this point, I would recommend making a post on hard forum or 3d guru. I can't really think of anything else to try. Also, changing to a 7970 x 2 might give you the same issues since the problem you are having hasn't been resolved.
