Flashed the bios (to F8) in this board, it did its thing and said it was
successful and rebooted to a black screen. cleared CMOS with the same problem.
Is there any other way to salvage this mobo or is it totally trashed? Thanks for
any help.

Had the same problem from F8 to F9. Did you use the @BIOS tool?

My only solution is replacing the BIOS chip on the board, which
unfortunately is soldered directly onto the board without socket.
Thanks, GB! :-(

had a similiar experience with a 7n400-pro2 board, had bios problems
and tried to flash a fix. big mistake ... my board had twin bios
setup and when asked which one to overwrite.. you guessed it, i picked
the good one. with both dead, i had to use my wifes computer to down
load another bios. i loaded the bios onto a floppy with the right
file name, inserted it into the drive and reset the computer. it was
the longest boot cycle, but it came alive, then crashed. i removed
the battery and chord, waited a few minutes and powered up. it
worked!!, but i have not tried a bios flash again period. the web
site has a cryptic explaination of the "last ditch" bios load process.
i don't know how much of the failed original bios update was actually
functional. that may have been enough, or there is a root loader
built into the floppy chips.

Some boards are able to read the floppy drive even with a trashed bios. You
will have to do it blind or with a batch file. Hope you saved your old bios
or get an old bios on floppy insert it with the proper batch commands and
you are back in business.

K.K.

This one definetely dead. Even the CPU did not get warmer a single
degree. No life signs from anything but the fans, not to think of the
floppy drive...

I've had the same problem with the same board and F8, using @BIOS thru
WinXP - completely dead. Gigabyte's answer was for me to find someone with
the kit to reflash the BIOS chip after unsodering it from the board. They
wouldn't even send me a replacement chip.

Exactly the same here - except that I updated F8 to F9. I get the
feeling that the @BIOS-tool is quite a big rubbish. (Received my board
back today from soldering and flash programming).

How easy was it to find someone to fix the problem? (You are in Germany?)

Yes, I'm in Germany. I simply googled a bit and found a company. They
did the job for EUR 24,--, now the BIOS-chip has a socket. It was
http:// www.chip-service.de

But I don't know if they work for foreign customers as the freight costs
might be too high. Or you might use http://www.recoverybios.com/
