Hi there

I've got myself into a cable management pickle.
I have an EVGA Supernova GS 550 power supply and it comes with a CPU cable that is a 2x4pin.

unfortunately i cannot get it through the hole in my case to get it to the cpu cleanly. It would need an 4 pin extender/adapter to get it through the slightly smaller hole.

Is using a 2x4pin to 4 pin adapter safe?
Could i file down the slightly fatter part of the cables cpu plug to fit it in that damn hole? Is it worth buying a new cable straight from bitfenix or another reputable pc company?

I guess I don't quite understand the problem. Are you saying that it would work fine if the 8 pin connector could fit through your routing hole?

An extension will not be particularly dangerous if it is of decent quality. Slight loss of voltage in the extra connection. Unless you have a monster CPU like an FX9000 or are planning to highly overclock something there is little possibility of even a low quality extension getting warm enough to cause a problem.

The cable is together all the way up to the plugs, then there is only an inch between the split and the plug itself. This means i have to get both through in order for the cable to reach the CPU power connector on the motherboard. The cables are so stiff (brand new PSU) and i cant bend one back to fit the lot through because...well I don't wanna' break anything.

You just need to stagger them a small amount so they don't go through together. The wires will bend, you won't break anything as long as you aren't excessively rough with the connectors.

Yes, I take it I would only need a 4pin to 4pin cpu connector?
