I recently picked up a Lian Li Strimer Plus 8-pin. For those who don't know, it's basically an RGB extension cable that connects to the GPU, then to the existing 8 pin cable that's attached to the PSU.

As shown in the pics, my 8 pin cable has 16 wires per connector for a total of 32. The Strimer extension only has 8 wires per connector, for a total of 16. The Strimer will connect fine to the cable, but less wires.

My question is, will I be able to connect the RGB extension to my existing 8 pin cables without blowing something up? Or will I have to buy a new 8 pin cable with only 16 wires total like the Strimmer Plus? I'm not sure if the Asus 3080 requires 32 wires for power but that's what it has, so I'm unsure if the Strimer will be compatible at all.

Solution
The PSU cable has more wires than there are pins in the connector because extra wires are v-sense wires that send the voltage back to the PSU which allows the PSU to compensate for voltage drop. By extending the cable with that RGB hose you'll introduce additional voltage drop (by extending the cable) and PSU will not be so effectively to compensate it because it doesn't know what's the voltage at the end of it anymore. In the end the voltage drop shouldn't be critical tho but now at least you know what will be the effect of this.
Your top picture shows the 8 pin EPS connector which is for the cpu, it won't work with that one.

With the bottom picture that shows the gpu power cables should it work according to what i can find out. Their site talks with these only about the 24pin motherboard cable and the gpu cables, they do not mention the EPS cable.

To make sure, dont use it with the EPS connector.

The first 2 pictures are the same cables from different angles. That's what was plugged into the GPU.
