I am a student of architecture and would like to build a PC for 3D rendering 3D SMAX.
I'm asking her because i know is the best site for this kind of things with alot of experts.


Budget Range:$ 800 - 1000 up to 1200 Max

System Usage from Most to Least Important: 3D rendering, 3D SMAX, V-Ray, Skertchup, AutoCAD, Photoshop.

Parts Not Required: keyboard, mouse, speakers, OS, Monitor maybe.

Preferred Website for Parts: I think amazon or any site ho delivery to Italy.

Country: Italy

Parts Preferences: I have always opted for Intel, ASUS and nVidia but I do not know if I can stay within the budgets.

Overclocking: Maybe, if there are advantages

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe later


Additional Comments:
I did some research but was not able to have the conclusions. for example:

i5 2500k,
i5 3570k,
i7 2600K or
Xeon E3-1245.

What kind of procesore (iX or Xeon) is more suitable for rendering?

Which parameters affect most of the rendering process?
the CUDA cores or GPURam?

For CPU I'd actually go with the i7-3770K out of all of those. I'd recommend the i7-3820 but that would put the build out of your price range.

For motherboard - the Asus P8B WS is a server motherboard, it's not really meant for workstations. It can really only handle Xeons and i3-2XXX. H77 limits access to BCLK and the multiplier, so if you want to overclock, don't get H77.

GPU - the 560TI is a gaming GPU, where the Quaddro 2000 is more of a rendering GPU, if you're using it to play games, go for the 560TI. If you're in need of finer redraws, go for the Quaddro.

And then switch out your SSD for a Crucial M4, I have a Sandforce drive similar to the Agility 3, and it sucks, the M4 would be a far better choice.

Stick with Intel, the FX-8150 has a lot of problems associated with it. That PSU should be fine - it'd be better to go with something from Seasonic or Corsair.
 
Are you going to be using Vray for software rendering, or VRayRT and rendering on the GPU?

If you are GPU rendering, then your GPU RAM is going to have a huge impact on how complex of a scene you can render on the GPU. The scene i am currently developing for the Tom's Hardware workstation test is a 230,000 polygon car sitting on a plane, illuminated by a 2048x1024 HDR image, with two other 512x512 texture maps, everything else shaders and the scene currently uses 830 mb of GPU memory.

You *may* want to get a Quadro 2000 for your primary card and something like a GTX 570 as a second card, just to assign it as a GPU renderer. As nifty as GPU rendering is in VRayRT, if your system only has a single GPU in it, then you really cannot do a lot of work with a vrayrt activeshade window open because UI response becomes very sluggish.

A Crossfire/SLI configuration does not give you a single memory buffer, it will still work as if it is a 1 GB card. Each card would, as far as I know, show up as a separate device to VRayRT as well- if they show up as a single device, it would show as a single 1 GB device.

G-Unit, you're incorrect, the CPU support list for the P8b-WS shows the entire current i3/i5/i7/Xeon line in that socket, not just the i3.

but I am not yet clear.

for a configuration that I consiglite badget of $ 800/1000 or a maximum of $ 1200

I wanted to clarify some things:

1 - Not a PC to play but to study / work.

2 - I'm not a health professional but I'm learning so for now I just use things VRay and not extremely complex.

3 - I do not configure it with the top (see also the budget) but with decent performance and improve it gradually.

This is my situation.
(However, just to clarify, I personally like Intel and Nvidia on an ASUS but are more expensive and thought I'd also consider AMD and ATI because they have better performance at low cost more, but I do not like the brand)

What do you recommend?
 
My question was, for the render, the better a Xeon or a iX.
not so much for the price but for the Characteristics and architecture of the CPU

for example: 2600K i7 or Xeon E3-1245.
 
The Xeon processor is a server processor and there is no reason you would need one of those, I am an engineer and work with ArcMap, AutoCad, 3D SMAX, etc and I am still using a Core 2 Duo...pre iX chips...and I have no problems with rendering at all. To offset that, I am using a Quadro FX 3500. Old tech, I know, but still powerful.

Now, in my opinion, i7-3770, Firepro V5900 2GB, and 16 GB of RAM
 


Yeah a Xeon would be pretty useless in a rendering build, and the Fire Pro is a good card but it's unobtainable on a $1K build. I'd suggest something like this:

I like the AMD Firepro V5900 but i dont know how mutch did it stick with the Intel i5.
I've always been of the idea: AMD with ATI and Intel with nVidia

If benefits are not relevant i will go for the more economic one.

GPUs aren't CPU specific - you can use any GPU on any CPU. I'm currently using a Radeon 7870 on a i5-3570K and it works great. The Fire Pro V5900 is a nice card but it's super expensive. The GTX 570 should get the job done.
 
Xeons are not just a server processor, they are also workstation CPUs. But I agree that the Xeon is an expenditure you do not need to make.

The 570 should be okay. As I stated earlier, if you are planning on doing a lot of GPU-based architectural rendering (which VRayRT is suited for) then you may want a second card so that you will maintain a bit of interactivity while using GPU-based Activeshade rendering.

The 2 GB card is a good solution because as I already stated, a 1GB card is pretty easy to run out of RAM while doing GPU rendering. Just when doing GPU rendering, you'll need to leave the machine alone, and Activeshade may or may not be useable with interaction.
 
For the moment im using a laptop.
HP i5 M430 2.27 Mhz
nVidia Gforce GT 320M 1Gb
Ram 4Gb

i used Sketchup and 3DS Max with Vray for some urban render scene for an exam.
but since then my laptop is like 10 or more years older and become hotter for averything,
like whatchin a movie or just running sketchup.
I have good knowledge of Electronic parts and pc assembling,
but since i needed a laptop for presentation a bought this one instead a pc,
even knowing that a pc is almost twice more powerfool that a laptop and half of the cost.

since then i decidet to take this step, and buildin a PC.
this is a huge effort for me ed for my budget but i think i have no choice.
1000$ is a big deal for me but i dont think i can spend less fore somethink decent like a low/mid range pc for this purpose.
Cuonting i dont work for the moment and can't afford a mid/high-range one just for my passion
and interess for 3D rendering applied to architecture ( no gaming ) i need advices to assembel a PC for that money.

My limited budget is the reason that im squeezing my brayn and asking everyone for the carateristics
of the CPU and GPU more suitable for 3D rendering so i can chose the best preformance for that price.

For the Motherboard i like the Asus for the satility and i think i just need:
one USB3, PCI express x16 and one 3.5 HDD 2700 for the moment,
eventualy adding one or two more HDD 3.5 in the future and i was thinking for a SSD but maybe later,
even i heart that this is a good moment for baying one becouse the prices for Mb is very low.

Same think for the case:
i like the HAF 912 but i foung some cheaper one:
Nox Xtreme BLAZE SX
Nox xtreme Hummer SX
Zalman Z9 U3

For the CPU i like 2700K but is out of my budget so maybe the 2500k i more in my range.
the Xeon or the iX
I know that i5 2500K is a nice one but if the overcolcking is not useful for renderin i can chouse somethink else
for that price whith a more useful carateristik like dhe Xeon 1200 serie
who is great for multiprocesing and has 8Mb cache instead 6Mb.
But again i dont know if overcolcking is bestter than multiprocessing for rendering.

GUP.
FirePro, Quadro or GTX.
the Quadro 2000 i nice but cost around $400 / 500.
the equivalent of the FrirePro v5900.
The GTX are less expensive like the GTX 560, Ti and 488 from EVGA or MSI with more ram up to 2GB and higt frequence or the GTX570.
I even thought if is better a Crosfire or LSI configuration with two GPU to about 100/150 $ each.

So the question could be: better a powerfull GPU or 2x less powerfull for rendering?

For the SPU i think 600w or 650w will be enough for single GPU and 650W or 700W to max 750W for 2x GPU Crossfire ro LSI
