$800 Gaming desktop build?

Looking for a gaming build for $800 (of course it doesnt have to be EXACTLY 800) I prefer Intel and Nvidia just a heads up!
I will be playing World of Warcraft, Counter Strike, Dayz and a lot of other games/ steam games. I also will stream them on twitch. I will eventually upgrade this pc when i get the money but I am in dire need of a computer right now and 800-900 is all I can spend right now. I already have Keyboard and mouse just need a monitor and of course the computer build. Give me the best quality build you can for $800-$900. Dont ask if I plan to overclock, just create a build please!! Thanks and much appreciated! (planning on buying in first week of Jan)

Also, do you plan to, or think you might, add a second card at any point in the future for crossfire or SLI? This makes a difference on the motherboard selection.

Since you will be playing Dayz, I would recommend having an i5-4690K quad-core processor, 8GB DDR3 RAM, GTX 970, and the rest of the parts should be personal preference and purpose.

That's not even close to accurate. If he doesn't plan to overclock, there is absolutely no reason for K series processor, or a motherboard that supports it. Cases should NOT be picked merely using preference as the determining factor, except by novice builders who don't know any better.

Cases should be determined based on necessary features like cooling capability including radiator support or lack of it, storage bay features or lack thereof, cable management, form factor, internal space for ease of hardware installations and maintenance and quality among other features. How it looks should be secondary to those considerations.

A GTX 970 is nice, but by no means is it the only or even necessarily the best choice available, especially if budget is a concern.

You're oversimplifying the process a bit. Not that those are not good components, but they may or may not be essential, or even be enough in some cases.

But it's better to have a K processor, since his budget should be high enough. It will prevent future CPU upgrade for another 2-3 years. If he gets a decent motherboard.
And you are right, if the budget ain't high enough the why not go for something like an i5-4430 or i5-4460

Since you DON'T plan on overclocking, and are not building a server, you might find this will basically run any title out there at ultra settings, for the most part.


The RAM is a bit faster at 1866mhz and also has a fast CAS 8 latency. Not the most fantastic case ever made, but it's plenty good for a budget build. If you can increase the budget a small amount you may choose to go with a better case like the Corsair 200R or 300R. The case is, again, something you can always upgrade down the road but doesn't really affect your performance at all for the present.

Most importantly, going with a GTX 970 now allows you to instantly game any title and most likely will be able to do so for the next 3-6 years or more with no problems. If you upgrade the core system at any point, likely the 970 will still be relevant and can be use in the new build. Additionally, if you do decide later on you need additional gaming power for multiple monitors or higher resolutions, you can always upgrade the motherboard to a model that supports SLI, but for the present it doesn't sound like that's a factor for the immediate future so the single card support shouldn't be a problem.

Granted, it a quad core CPU, but they're fast cores for a stock chip and I don't know of any games requiring more than four threads, not to mention with the addition of an aftermarket cooler, if you decide to overclock later, you can easily do so with this configuration and should have no trouble taking it to 4.5Ghz, possibly more with a very good cooler.
