So I recently bought and installed a CoolerMaster Hyper 212 LED. Going from the stock cooler I would Imagine that my temps would be A LOT better. I used to be able to stream while gaming and now I get horrible frame drops. I've reinstalled the heatsink multiple times to see if placement or something of that nature was off. I'm not sure whats going on...

Mobo- MSI 970A G 43
CPU- AMD FX 8350
GPU- Radeon R9 290x
CoolerMaster 212 Evo
10 GB Ram

Temp at Idle is like 30 but under load it can get to 75-80....

And CPUID monitor says different temps for different things????

Fans are all situated the right way...

HELP!

Solution
Your cpu is throttling under loads because your motherboard is not very good. Your motherboard is not good enough to power a 125w cpu due to poor vrm heatsinks. The CM 212 is worse than your stock cooler because your stock cooler at least directed air down onto your motherboard. The 212 keeps air moving parallel to your motherboard causing your vrms to overheat more easily.

So I should get a better mobo....

I just bought a MSI GeForce GTX 1060 DirectX 12 GTX 1060 GAMING X 6G 6GB 192-Bit GDDR5 HDCP Ready ATX Video Card too... ;(

I have a friend who has a MSI 970A SLI Krait Edition AM3+ AMD 970 & SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 ATX AMD Motherboard.

Will this improve my performance?

I'm sorry, I can't justify switching to intel! That's like 1k investment when I feel like this processor can compete.

Yes the MSI 970A Krait is better.

Why would switching to Intel cost $1k? You could get a 4th gen i5 + motherboard for around $250 and reuse all the other parts you have.

You could get a 6th gen i3 6100 + motherboard AND DDR4 RAM for less than $250.

Yes the i3 6100 would be an upgrade over your FX8350.

And what would you suggest? I appreciate all the responses. I'm on newegg reading reviews and what not but it starts to get overwhelming with everyones opinion...

So if I were to switch to intel cpu and mobo what one? If it's that cheap I may just go that route... My AMD experience has been annoying to say the least..

My buddy is actually bringing the mobo tomorrow to see what we can do..

And @LeKeiser, what do you mean what do I expect?

This would be HUGE upgrade.

I don't know your budget, but I would probably go with the newer i3 6100.

Do a bit of research before deciding. Look at some i3 6100 gaming benchmarks and you'll see how well it performs.

This site did a review of some i3s and compared them to several other cpus including 3 different AMD FXs. The best part is the included a R9 290x as one of the video cards used so you'll get a direct comparison.

Or what about the i5 with the GA B150M Mobo and DDR4 memory

Yes if you can afford the 6th gen i5, that would be best. Would be about $70 more than the i3.

I'm confused as to why the i3's perform better than the i5's?

Just saw your edit.

I think I'm just going to go with the i5, GA B 150 MOBO, and DDR4 memory and try to pawn off my current build on someone else! haha.

I can spend probably around 300-350, and as a reminder I already got MSI GeForce GTX 1060 DirectX 12 GTX 1060 GAMING X 6G 6GB 192-Bit GDDR5 HDCP Ready ATX Video Card.

Am I going to need a new PSU? I currently have a LEPA 600W, but I've been reading lately that they only put out 500...

on TH, they will always tell you to get an Intel, no matter what your problem is.
You have a decent rig, the only thing you need is to change your mobo.
If you want to go to Intel, you'll have to change your RAM as well, but they'll tell you it won't cost you much more.
Get a mobo, overclock the 8350, and wait for Zen to see how it performs if you really want to change something. But don't go i3, waste of money. (I'm sure they'll say I'm dead stupid with my advise but that's normal :) )

Because most games only use 1 or 2 cores. The i3 is an EXTREMELY fast dual core cpu. It runs at 3.7ghz.
The i5 6400 runs at 2.7ghz base and 3.3ghz turbo.
The i5 6500 runs at 3.2ghz base and 3.6ghz turbo.
That means the i3 is considerably faster a lot of the time.

The fact is, a couple of stronger cores is flat out better for most games.
The FX8350 has 8 very weak cores making it a poor choice for gaming.

It's not bad advice to wait. The FX8350 is not completely terrible. You WILL have good performance with a better motherboard.

We "always" tell people to get Intel because AMD has not released any new material in 4 years. What do you expect? There are dozens of people on here every day making posts complaining that their AMD system is not performing as well as they want. What am I supposed to tell them? Go buy more 2012 parts? The fact is, the OLD AMD cpus just simple aren't as good as the new Intel cpus. It's not exactly a fair fight. Intel has released 4 generations of cpus since the FX cpus came out. Each time getting 5-10% better.

I won't begin to act like I know anything about computers except taking them apart and putting them together. So like I said I appreciate the responses.

What turbo said about Intel makes complete sense. But I'm still waiting until tomorrow for my buddies mobo to see what kind of performance increases there are. I just spent the $300 on the GPU and $30 for a useless heatsink.

I'm also thinking if I can get rid of my rig now maybe with the new mobo I can get 200-250 out of it and just throw it all towards and intel build.

And will my 500w PSU support all of this? Or Will I need a new one of those as well?

You're using a 500w psu with a FX8350 and a R9 290x??? Yeah you're probably going to need to upgrade that as well. No rush though if it's lasted this long. Intel cpus only use about half the power that your FX8350 does.

Like I said, don't just take my word for it. Do a bit of research. Look at some benchmarks. Grab that motherboard from your friend if you can. Wait for Zen if you want. They're supposed to be really competitive with Intel again. Lets hope so.

Pfff... "not completly terrible"...
it's a great CPU, even now, even if like you're saying it's an "old" CPU.... If it's still out there and still selling, and people are still happy with it, it can't be a total crap...
it still compares to recent Intels, it doesn't suck in games, it's really great when multitasking (people do it all the time but most don't know that of course) and great when using all the cores.

if the OP wanted to change his complete rig for whatever reason, I would understand you guys coming on this thread and say "hey, don't go AMD yet, Zen is coming out soon, let's see how it performs, and then choose wisely"
but he needs to change his motherboard and your advise is: change your whole rig and go Intel. Worse: get an i3 and you'll be very happy.
So he'll spend money to get 10fps more in some games, won't notice anything while using "normally" his computer, and will be less happy if he uses apps that needs more cores (but who does, huh?)

again, he has a 8350, still a very good CPU. He only needs to get a better mobo, see if he wants to OC, and then with the money he'll have saved, he'll see if he goes Intel or AMD again next year, 4 months from now.
