I was in vrchat, and all of a sudden my pc shuts down and restarts (along with wifi acting weird) but is an 850w enough for a 3080??? I saw on msi afterburner the gpu will randomly spike in boost/base clock speeds but temps are normal, they will stay below 70 or at 70 degrees, never too hot. Im just confused on if i should get a 1200w psu…..im scared. And everything in my pc is somewhat new, not even a year old. The 3080 i got on Wednesday as a bday gift… i need help…

Not sure what u mean by atx 16 pin…

On February 1st, 2022, the ATX12V v3.0 spec became final, bringing considerable changes to power supplies. From now on, any PSU with more than 450W should include one of the new 12+4 pin connectors for Add-In Cards (like GPUs), and have various changes that allow it to deliver up to 200% of its max-rated capacity for short periods!

The new ATX spec also ensures that there won't be any shutdowns and other compatibility issues with the upcoming generations of power-hungry GPUs. From now on, the PSU will be able to set the power limit of the graphics card, meaning that you should invest in the proper PSU for your GPU or else you won't get to utilize it fully! Oh okay thats really cool! Didn’t know such a thing, honestly not to knowledgeable on psu’s, ig you’d say my superflower leadex III 850w is a good psu, or ig i should say good quality. But basically if lets say i wanted to get a higher wattage psu, id have to make sure its a newer model from 2021-2022 at least between there?

Yes its fine. Sure someone will say otherwise 😁

That is over all a decent power supply. But if it would make you feel better get something larger. But I would advise to get something with the new ATX 16pin standard so you are ready for a video card upgrade down the road.

I will say i did have Msi afterburner open on my other monitor and my 3080 didn’t even go above 60 degrees, i did have a fan curve as well from my previous 1080 ti. But my friend who i was with did say there was some sort of person who was crashing what not but idk, running games like metro exodus on high or ultra doesnt cause issues either

The new standard of power supplies are just starting to release you may have to wait a little bit if you want a newer one
