85C to 98C on Core I5

I just finished building new machine, and tested it out with Crysis 2. I had it in windowed mode so I could check Core i5 2500 temp and when I did I almost pissed myself lol.

Temps were showing a stable 85ish celcius, spiking to 90s. I didn't take time to grab a screen shot, I just immidietly closed the game. Temperature is around 35-45 right now, I have 2 google chrome pages open. Everything is brand new so there isn't dust around. Fans are spinning well.

When I put my hand inside the case and hover it around the mobo an I can feel some nice air circulation. I'm using the Core i5 stock fan.. which looks kind of cheap. I got 1 front panel fan, 1 back panel fan, cpu fan.

Have a clean Windows 7 64 bit running, have not played in the bios or with any overclocking softwares, everything is default.

I used core temp to monitor temperatures.


Spec:

PSU: Corsair 750tx v2
Mobo: Intel DH67BL
Proc: Core i5 2500
Ram: 8GB DDR3
GPU: Gtx 550 ti

those temps are kinda high (if its cpu temp)

did u make sure the heat transfer compound was ok? have you tried removing the heatsink and cleaning & applying new stuff?

make sure your fan speed is set to auto in bios, so it will scale the speed according to temp.

ur not using software (e.g. speedfan) to lock down the cpu fan speed are you?

the heatsink probably isn't seated completely flat. you need to get off that machine asap and re-seat the hsf. you really just need a better hsf, the stock is total junk. i was installing a 2600k a few months ago, and just wanted to test it before i put the noctua on....i was being stupid and rushing, and i did the same thing, i didn't seat the hsf properly and tems were 79c. it obviously could be something else, but that is just a junk hsf. the 2600k comes with the same junk.

Just installed the fan and sink today, they were fresh out of the box. I'm not using any program to slow it down, not that I know of.

I got CPUID hardware monitor and Coretemp, but show similar temps. This is what I get, are my fans running to slow? What should they be at under pressure.

I'm gonna try rebooting and checking to see if the setting for my fan speed in my bios are set to "auto".

also gonna try reinstalling the fan.

Okay so I unseated the fan and heatsink and only half the thermal *** that was on my heat sink was smeared on the top of the CPU socket thing, like half of it is floating, and it wont touch lol. How the hell do I make it touch it. xD

yup that was the problem than. you need to be more careful when seating it. put the motherboard on it's side, just put it at an angle where you can see all of it at once, and push down.
