8800GT problem

I'm using an Asus P5N-E SLI with nforce 650i chipset. Runs like a dream.. Got 12200 in 3dmark06 with a E6300 @ 2.8Ghz. Obviously if i go to a quad, scores will go up.

add them all up and you'll get 18amps so i think that it will work

i just built a new system with:

3.0ghz core 2 duo
gigabyte micro atx GA-73UM-S2H
cooler master 500W psu, each 12V outputs 16A

i was using the onboard video which cannot be disabled. installed the PNY 8800GT and it would not post or boot up if bios is changed so that initial display is PEG. resetting it to onboard mobo would let it post and boot into XP. fan on 8800GT would scream until i got into XP and installed the drivers. even with video drivers installed, get no video from the 8800GT. there doesn't seem to be a way to permanently disable the onboard video. 8800GT is hooked up to two 12V rails, each putting out 16A.

i'll be taking the card over to a friend's this weekend to see if the card works. figure it has to be either card is DOA (which i doubt since drivers install and it quiets the fan once in OS) or a motherboard incompatibility. i'd rather just exchange the mobo for one without video if the card works in another system. but i suppose it could also be the PSU. any other suggestions?

Same problem as OP different M/b thou.

Seems GA-N650SLI-DS4L + ECS N8800GT PCI-E 2.0 512MB = Incompatible.

I tested out the 8800GT on a friends ABit mobo/AMD system and it came up first go no problem, then I put the 8800GT back in mine and no signal again 🙁 .

Started chasing Gigabyte for an update, but if I don't get a reply I might as well RMA the mobo or G/C and try a different combo 🙁

Specs are

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
PC6400 DDR2 RAM, 4-4-4-12 (2x XMS2 1GB)
GA-N650SLI-DS4L (Not compatible with GC)
ECS N8800GT PCI-E 2.0 512MB (Not compatible M/B)
Gigabyte 6800GT (while the 8800GT is out of action)
500W PSU
200GB SATAHDD

Windows XP SP2
BIOS F2

I presumed PCI-E 1.0 1.0a 1.1 and 2.0 would be compatible

Assuming your card isn't faulty then it may well be the pci-e 1.oa as I had the exact same problem. I then upgraded my motherboard and now the card works fine. Just google "pci-e 1.0a 8800gt" and you'll see what I mean.

Also I doubt it's a problem with your power supply as you should at least get a POST screen with your PSU - I've seen an 8800gt running on a 400W PSU and it booted fine - though it did crash after 2 minutes games playing...

I've also seen reports that the problem is specific to PCI-e v1.0a combined with a via chipset. My old board had this combo (Abit AX8 v2.0) and as I said previously, it just refused to even display a POST screen with my 8800gt.

I have an asus board (see sig) and an eVGA 8800gt 512mb 600/900 card. I have all the latest drivers/bios and it crashes after about an hour of gaming in CoD4 or HL2 (mods included) Strangely enough, TF2, CoD,LOTRO and a lot of the "newish" games dont crash even though I get crashes in those games.

I get bad artifacting in HL2 ep1&2 when im in a dark area and i turn on my flashlight. If im in a vent, and turn my flashlight on... my entire screen goes to artifacts, but when i turn it off... it looks normal.

I just got another 8800GT cross shipped to me, so I will test it out and see what happens.

I just spent two days working on getting the BGG 8800 GT OC to work. I bought one and replaced by 7900 GS. Attempted to boot but no video signal. I changed from a 400 watt psu to a 600 watt psu and no video. I switched the video cable to the other DVI out no video. I tried switching monitors no video. I switched the power connector at the card no video. I have an ECS motherboard and took the video card back to Frys and they tried it in their ECS test motherboard and no video. Rather than trying to switch out motherboards I regretfully returned the card for a refund and they sent it back to vendor. It seems odd I would have 2 cards with the exact same problem unless the whole batch had a problem and Frys was out of the 8800 GT. I'm getting the feeling that there is a motherboard-video card incompatability issue but right now don't have the time to switch out the motherboard.

I sent the below email to my mate at the hardware store and it fixed all my problems.

I want to return the GA-N650SLI-DS4L, I f*****g give up.

Cheers,

I still don't know if it was an issue with the BIOS or the chipset for the-N650SLI-DS4L , new mobo works a charm thou.

(my money is on chipset) because to their credit gigabyte did respond to my support question and provided an updated bios (that didn't resolve the issue with the GA-N650SLI-DS4L) but at least I know one Taiwanese engineer knows the troubles I have had.

hi guys ands girls had the same problem with my elitegroup 8800 gt.well basically the via chip sets in the m/b wont run the card. there are two ways to go one i now will fix it the other im not sure.
1.buy a new motherboard with intel chip sets avoid nforce chip sets if not using sli nforce have had issues as well. But please try option 2 first it could save you some bucks.

2.before removing your old card install the 8800 gt driver disc go to utilities on the disc and find the via chip set file.as i said i went with option 1 and only noticed the via file later as i said might work might not goodluck and have fun gaming

Hi

I got the inno 8800gt OC with a 400w psu so power shouldnt be a problem, unless its an utter crap psu you got 😉

Some of inno's 8800gt came with a new bios in the package, so you might contact inno if you dont have it, and try to flash the card.

Friend just built a new system with a 3870 and it wouldn't boot windows properly until he flashed the bios.
Seems older mobos don't like newer cards sometimes.
