Hi there, I have a dell XPS420 Q6600 and my 8800gt recently started getting really hot.
When I dont monitor the fan with rivia tuner my card becomes too hot (around 90C) and my PC just freezes.
I oppened the card and applied new thermal compound but it didnt rly help.

Should I replace my card? Get a new system or wait for the next generation of graphic cards??

? imo it is worth investing in. all he needs to do is clean the dust from the gpu and maybe re-seat the heatsink with new thermal paste. if your motherboard supports overclocking, you can easily get that cpu to 3ghz and it is on par with a phenom 955.

Why replace the entire computer? It's a Q6600, which is perfectly current-tech. Just replace the video card with something more modern. Just be sure to watch the power requirements of the new card vs. your power supply specs.

So you took off the heatsink, cleaned it and put new thermal paste on the gpu and its still runs hot? Is the fan on the card working and spinning? If so, then there is a problem with the card and it needs to be replaced.

An easy solution would be to buy a GTS 450 card to replace it. It uses about the same amount of power as the 8800GT and is about twice as fast.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I've made up my mind and I will buy a complete new system. I have another question tho, should I buy one right now, like is it the right time or should I wait for intel processor update and video card update??

thanks again

why don't you dig around a bit and build your own system?
the best time to buy anything is NOW, why would you wait? after the next generation of CPU and GPU come out, newer ones will be annouced, you will wait forever. Build when you feel like you are good enough is the best way to go :)
