That's odd...So by your logic, it's only ok to be an Nvidia fanboy??? Instead of labeling yourself proudly as an Nvidiot, and slamming others as being ATI fanboys, why not try to actually provide something worhtwhile to the discussion for a change.

I don't know any person who honestly doesn't like Canada, and I live in North Carolina (southeast USA). It's just, you guys can be a little quirky sometimes, which makes it fun to pick on ya a little. We're Americans though, we have thick skin and enjoy picking on everything, including ourselves.

Oh yeah, I can only imagine how bad it must've felt to loose in the Stanley Cup Finals to my Hurricanes, a team from the U.S. and the south.

It's all in good nature.

Listen, let's be clear on this, while I won't dignify his crap with a reply in kind, let's not pretend Rob's or anyone else's jingoistic posts on the subjest are in good nature.



But let's not confuse your and Sojrner's good natured ribbing (that I will willfully partiipate in in a more amicable thread) with Rob's post which is nothing but ignorant hate regardless of how little I care what he says.

I have too much respect for the friends I know to respond in kind, and I know that replying with a yank remarks does nothing to improve the situation. To me it shows that for Rob, like so many others, it is beyond personal, and I seriously think he needs professional help.

I'm just little dissapointed in the response to the criticism getting more attention, and not the criticism of Rob's attack in the first place using nationality as a pejorative. But I guess everyone sees things differently.

My point was only to distance most Americans from Rob. The comment earlier about "they" from mtriples just globbed us all together. I was just bringing clarity. (with a bit of ribbing sure) Was not trying to make lite of Rob's inane attitude. He (his attitude and his many disguises) is an unwelcome addition to the internet as a whole, let alone this forum.

I was definitely not referring to Rob's posts at all when I said it's all in good nature. I was referring to my jab at Canadian hockey and Souj's post.

Anyone that reads most of my posts knows I can't pass up a good joke or jab. Hell, my screen name Gary_Busey. You think I chose that because I'm a fan of the actor? Hell no, I chose it because I laughed at the thought of a forum member whose name was Gary_Busey.
 
GASP THE X2900XT DOSNT DO WELL AGAINST A 8800GTX EVEN THOUGH IT WAS MEANT TO GO AGAINST A 8800GTS AND IT WAS A NVIDA SPONSORED DEMO??

seriously guys and gals (if we have any) how many times has nvida released a demo that was biased to them and then when the game came out it was a completely different matter in performance...its the same thing with the HL2 "Shader Day" Benches just in opposite order......

Now speaking of hockey, why does Detroit get to be called hockey Town USA !?! They had 2800 unsold seats for their first game of the playoffs, that's not a 'hockey town' !! :evil:

I don't see how driver tweaks/optimizations are going to close this gap, or improve image quality that drasticly. What happened to all the "2900 will blow away the gtx in dx10" speculation?

Eh a lot of people would rather rely on ego defense mechanisms before admitting they are wrong.

The R600 is not an 8800 killer by far. The extra features on it maybe valuable to some people, but not most.

I will be interesting to see what excuses come arise.
 
If it wasn't already enough that the 7month old 8800GTX is beating ATI's new GPU in just about every DX9 application (by a long shot in some games) we are now seeing the same thing happen with the first DX10 demo despite all the talk of the R600 being so much more superior in DX10. To add insult to injury ATI is also losing in the one area that they used to reign supreme-Image Quality

While I agree that the R600 should get better over time with newer drivers its very very difficult to imagine that driver updates alone could ever close this kind of gap.

in the fight betwen GTS and the 2900XT
I find it laughable, let's see
Nvidia sponsored the Lost planet 's demo with the classic signature move of "the way its meant to be played"
and GTS spanks the 2900XT
now we go to Call of Juarez....
sponsored by AMD-ATI
and the cycle is reverted.. AMD spanks the GTS and almost claws the GTX...
unless I see the final version where BOTH are optimized.. id say FOUL PLAYING.
its like AMD vs Intel all over again, except using the benchmark of their convenience to show the superiority of their "videocards" and not cpus 😛

btw, Im still wondering why everyone claims that R600 means only the 2900XT?
I mean the R600 is the technology and family number....
when they mention R600's series, it means all the R600 variants, not just the 2900XT.
bleh.. these kids nowadays feeling macho and defending their hardware at all costs...
 
I honestly would not know what to do if I lived in a "hockey town"... Here in MT we have no pro-level sports so I settle my needs with the smaller leagues that still smack the puck hard, allow some fights now and again and have a bunch of 20-somethings that put their heart into the game. Unfortunately it is hard to draw a crowd around here, and so they languish is small venues with a small (but very dedicated) fan base...

...oh well, that is the price I pay for living where you have some "elbow room" with the term 'population density' not even in the Montana vocabulary. 😉

Honestly, I love watching hockey and curling. Neither is as popular as football or something here. Up there you northerners probably have whole networks devoted to curling don't ya? (I can just see a curling "star" advertising Nike up there... lol) Not to mention that most of you learn to skate before you walk as a kid right? hahaha... I shoulda been born a canadian I guess...

ATI trying for 6 months to come up with something better than the 8800GTX only to have it measure up to the 8800GTS so they adjust the cost accordingly and then play a nice COP OUT of (oh! we are just competing with the GTS)

That's just childish, Rob.

Nobody is saying that the 2900 XT is better than the GTX. But clearly, the 2900 XT is an 8800 GTS competitor. This review is heavily one sided - hell, they didn't even bother benching an 8800 GTS 640 for reference. For all we know, the 640 might perform worse than the 2900 XT in this bench.

This bench is about as useful as an X1950 XT vs an 8600 GT bench would be... actually, that'd be at least a little useful because their price is similar, at least. 8)

Oh yeah, definitely. That's why I moved away from Toronto and escape to the mountains alot.

LOL! My dad was a 'semi-pro' curler (even played against some on air personalities from TSN), and still plays on a seniors team and goes to a ton of bonspiels. I like the game, but I'm planning to retire to it from Hockey and skiing. 8)

Not to mention that most of you learn to skate before you walk as a kid right? hahaha... I shoulda been born a canadian I guess...
