Like the title says...

My board will not take my PC8500 1066 DDR2 ram 4x2gb sticks and run it at 1066. However, it will take 4gb (2x2gb) and run it at 1066. What kind of performance differences am I going to see between the 2 setups and how would I test it for myself?

Thanks!

Solution
Not that much. Slower ram actually can run at faster timings. First be sure your board can run at 1066. Some boards only run that fast when overclocking the cpu, which sometimes is your best shot at improving performance.

The ram is rated at 5-5-5-18 at 1066. Also, the board is designed to run 1066, but only with 4gb. It may be possible to run 8gb at 1066 with an upgraded CPU, however I am not positive on that yet.

I'm quite new to overclocking and talking about ram specs so I'm not too sure but I believe when you say faster timings, you mean lower (numbers) timings?

Thanks for the quick reply! I am just working on learning to create an all around stable OC on my current setup to see what I can do with it.
