[SOLVED] 8GB to 16GB DDR3 Memory Upgrade

I am looking to upgrade my RAM from 8GB to 16GB
And I am just wondering if someone can help me make the right choice.
my budget would be between $100 - $200 AU (I'm Australian) if there is cheaper options that's fine also.

What is your current CPU and what model is your current 8GB? Is it a single 8GB module or 2x4GB?

My CPU is a Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz.
Currently there is one 8GB Module installed but this motherboard has 2 Ram slots

If you open the SPD tab in CPU-Z, either post what it says for Model Manufacturer and Part Number or post another screen shot of that tab. I can tell you you are running DDR3 1600 ram, but knowing what model it is would help find you a matching module for the best compatibility without needing to buy a 2x8GB kit.

So that only tells me it's an A-Data brand module and it's dual rank (not your fault), but without knowing more than that I can't really say what module you should pair with it to ensure compatibility. If you look at the module itself, the sticker will have the actual model number and it should be something like AD3U1600W8G11-R.

The simple answer for now is you may be better off buying a new/used 2x8GB kit or save toward a new platform like AMD Ryzen 3000. You should be fine with Crucial CT2K102464BD160B 2x8GB DDR3L 1600MHz. https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0091LG13O/. You could try buying used to get it for maybe half the price. Pretty much any 2x8GB 240-pin DDR3 or DDR3L 1600Mhz kit will work with your system, just don't get higher than CL11 (Cas Latency.) CL10 or CL9 at 1600Mhz will be more expensive as they are better timings. 1600Mhz is also the fastest your CPU supports without overclocking and your motherboard does not support memory overclocking, so don't spend extra for faster modules.
