I want to use my 960 pro M2 512GB as my main OS drive (W10Pro)
My motherboard is an asus Deluxe ii, and CPU is i7 6900K.
Where should I plug it to get the best performance,
1) in the M2 slot?
2) in the PCIe 3.0 using the adapter that comes with the Asus?

I would appreciate any guide on how to configure it to avoid problems etc.

I am not a gamer. I use the PC for Pro Audio work. Mainly huge orchestral templates on Cubase 9. In the near time I am not planning doing any SLI configuration, so I will be using only one GPU card.

I read about some problems when plug in a M2 drive in an M2 slot, the PCIe 3.0 drops down to PCIe 2.0: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/storage/2015/11/11/samsung-ssd-950-pro-review/1

These are the rest of my specs if it may be of any help:
CPU: i7 6900K, GPU: GTX 1060 6GB, RAM: 4x16GB 64GB Trident Z 3200/14, OS drive: Samsung 960 pro m2 512GB, storage drives: 840/850 EVO SSD's and HD's, Cooling: Corsair H100i v2, Power: Corsair 850 platinum modular.
Thanks in advance!

Solution
I have the 960 Pro installed into my m.2 slot on my ASRock Z170 Pro4 board and Samsung benchmarks the read at about 2000 MB/s and CrystalMark at about 2800 MB/s. I did not realize PCI-e X16 is faster else I might have gotten the adapter as well. But, frankly, you aren't going to notice much difference as I don't even notice that much difference between this and my SATA SSD which benchmarked around 500 MB/s.

Thanks for the reply.
So your point is that if I plug it in the m2 slot in my deluxe ii, I will be using 4 lanes of the PCIe, since the m2 in that mobo is m2x4, right?

And if I plug it in the PCIe slot in my deluxe ii using the adapter that comes with the mobo, I will get better performance since the PCIe slot is x16 lanes, correct? In this configuration will I get the 32GBs?

Thanks

Thanks for the help,
Do you know if the m2 slot in the ASRock Z170 Pro4 is like the one on the deluxe ii? Same speed etc.?
