so i was about to buy the 8800gt 256 mb..and then i saw people saying that 9600 is even better than 8800 GT 256mb

So which one is Really better for gaming ?

I have a 19' monitor..and i always play games on 1280 X 1024 Resolution

XFX 9600GT 512mb 256 bit DDR3

OR

XFX 8800GT 256mb 256bit DDR3

Curse you Nvidia For All the confusing Model numbers and names.

The 9600 GT has clearly the lead here.
If you are going to buy any one of these cards, go for 9600 GT.
It's newer
Performs better.
Has more memory
...

However,

I would also say that you should take a look at 4670 HD.
It is a card that performs good at 1680x1050
Which means that it will perform great or may be exceptionally great at 1280x1024

And it's cheaper, about $65.

Look before giving away your money.

i had an 9600 gt nvidia card that overheated at 60c . plus there is no fan control on some 9600 gt's, mines didn't have. skip the 9600 gt trust me . get a 4670

edit: THE 9600gt sounds like a jet engine too.

when ever i play a game at 1680x1050(max details) the card used to heat up to no end until at 67c and my pc would restart or the screen would mess up and i would that repeating audio . when i played at lower res it was fine , as long as the card didn't reach 67c . the card was very sensitive. it is not a power issue , the problem was the card , either overheating or something else. However, it might have been the sucky pny brand . plus did I tell you that i did not have fan control on 9600 gt? it was a nightmare. as you see I still have anger

You might have gotten a bad card or it could have been a PSU problem. Still no reason for other people to get a weaker card because you personally had a problem. The 9600GT has been around for years and if it consistently gave people problems it would have a very bad reputation or more likely not be sold any more. Neither of those are the case.

i did not have a personal problem with the card, i didn't chew the card that it decided to give me problems ,and it was not a psu problem. the psu runs fine my other card.... plus how do you explain the fact that it didn't have fan control? also why does it sound like a jet engine? as i said these problems might only have existed in the brand of the card i had... so just get it since it's xfx

That would be because some cards have two pin fans on them (my 8800's for example) and they were going for the sound of a Ducati 1198 but got it wrong. 😛
