I can get the 9800 NON PRO for $100.00 more than what the 9600PRO is currently going for. I am wondering if it is worth it. I am running with a 1GB of 333DDR ram and 2.4 P4. I am gaming with Raven Shield mostly rite now but will want to play some newer games in the coming months....will I see a difference now/is it worth it?

Thanks ya'll

I havn't read anything online about the 9800 non-pro, but I was at Best Buy yesterday, and it looks like they're carrying them now, although they didn't have any, and the sticker said that the 9800 np had 128 bit memory!!!

Is that correct?

That would suck MAJOR ASS!

The 9800 non-pro delivers the same performance as the 9700 PRO, so buy whichever is cheaper...

if its Made By Ati, which Best Buy/ Future Shop (same company) usually sells then its probably a typo

theres so many terms that can be messed up nowadays.

Actually the 9800Non-pro is just UNDER the 9700Pro. From the review of the FXs from [H] (originally from game PC I think).

I'll see if I can find it. Was gonna post it, but it appears that none of my recent links to reviews get much action so why bother?

PLEASE post it if you can. I have been searching for 9800 NON PRO information but have come up dry. If anyone has information that would be great. I may just go with the the 9600 and wait until games come along that use the 256 megs in newer cards then move up again...but I'm wondering if the 128 meg non pro 9800 would make a big difference in a game like Raven Shield (uses Unreal engine). I play it in 1024 res.

New games are hardly using 64MB of textures fully. 256 megs won't be required for another two to three years or so, I reckon.

Extra mamory has ne effect on what resolution you can play at, unless you're using antialiassing.

Remember, most of the video cards out there are 32 meg Geforce2 class cards. That's what developers are targeting for minimum specs most of the time.

Because people like high FPS and the ability to use FSAA and ansio, which the more powerful 9800 GPU can provide.

256 MB is a marketing feature at this point. nothing more.

My local dealer keeps selling people junk cards with 128MB RAM to replace their good 64MB cards because...people just don't know what they're buying. It's the graphics processor that gives the 9700 and 9800 their power.

The 9800 non pro is faster than the 9700pro because it uses more efficient shader and smoothing technology. So clock for clock, the 9800 is faster and better looking than the 9700 pro. Or, why would they introduce the same cars with a different part number?

Oh, and they both use 256 bit memory. Please don't post your guesses people!
