Thinking about upgrading my 9800 pro and going over to the dark side and picking up a 6800 GT or an X800 pro from ABIT, any thoughts on what sort of performance gains I should get and which to go for?

What games do you play that the 9800 pro is falling short? What monitor do you have...what resoltutions/settings do you want to game at? In some cases the gains will be huge, and the rewards real. In others, not really.

I am in your shoes also. The 9800 pro isn't bad at all. It does very well in hL2, although at 1280 max details I wish I could use AA, which I can not. Doom 3 I don't care about, but Farcry I'd see a big jump going from 1024 med-high no AA to say 1280 high 4X/8X. I'd like an upgrade. With prices usually well above $300 for the X800 pro and 6800GT, and well above $400 on the X800XT, I am holding off. Sure at the right price, I'd upgrade for sure. But until then, I would need even more performance to get me to spend that much money. X800XT for $300...sold. X800XL in AGP for under $300...sold. But R520 later this year has me thinking about going all out and dropping a load on my final AGP card. We shall see if and when it arrives though.

I like HL2, and doom 3 I'm having a look at at hte moment so it's falling down a little there, but i like to run at 1600 x 1200 on my 19" monitor and it would be cool to run the AA as well.

If you're playing at high resolutions, you'll definitely notice the performance boost.

The 6800GT is probably your best bet in the price range, although the X800XL is coming soon... very good card, very good price.

Thx for the advice, I picked up a Gygabyte X800 pro, nice card but when I ran RivaTuner my clock speeds are way way low...like 120 Mhz....what gives?
