dug this game out of my cupboard and started it over again (getting ready
for dues ex2) but at random I will get major screen artifacts. If I didn't
know better I would say it was bad ram or overheating. Vertical lines all
over the screen and you can't see much of the game. When you quit the lines
remain on windows (XP) and require a reboot to fix.

Why I think it is not a heating/ram problem is that black hawk down,
UT2004,Beyond good and evil, prince of persia, AOM,colin mcrae 04, gta 3 ,
postal 2 all play fine. no problems at all. Just dues ex 1 .

Is this a known driver/radeon issue? First time I played the game through
(many moons ago) I had a GF2.

I am running it on a 9700 Pro with no problems except the expected
misalignment of blocks of scenery. Are you sure that it is not a heat
issue? The reason I ask is that the game seems to put a lot of stress
on a system. It seems to take forever to window it using the Windows
key and even then it hogs so many resources that it is almost impossible
to do anything while it is running. I am running with the 4.5 drivers
currently but had no problems with earlier versions.

wicked game it is. I had a play around with it more and in the past as soon
as the gfx played up I would quit and restart. When it did it this time I
went into the F1 menu and went to objectives then hit ESC twice to get play
into the game and it comes right again. I don't know.. back to playing.

I seem to remember when playing Deus Ex on my 9100
that it didnt like detail textures being enabled - try disabling that
option.

I just installed it on my 9800 pro and it seems fine, with everything on
high 1280*1024 using DirectX. Just on the first lvl atm
Have you applied the patch for it.

no. I did a very quick google search for a patch but keep getting dues ex 2
websites. no mention of dues ex 1 on the web that I can find. You got a
link to the patch?

I downloaded it ages ago, but the file name is DeusExMPPatch1112fm.exe, in
case the google link below doesn't work
http://www.google.com.au/search?q=DeusExMPPatch1112fm.exe&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&btnG=Google+Search&meta=
It was the cumulative and multiplayer patch released and is ~35 MB.
There could be a smaller patch if you play with the search paramaters using
version number and Deus Ex.
HTH

Running it at 1600*1200 now.

Thanx . I'll give it a crack and hopefully that will fix things. I forgot
how cool this game is. Anyone played Dues ex 2 yet and it is just as good?

Nope, it's not even half as good as DE1. It is also slow as hell. You need
a super computer to run it. At least you have the right 3D card to run DE2.

DE 1 was slow as hell when I first played it. Good to have a machine it will
run well on (better late than never)
Hopefully DE 2 won't be as woeful as Unreal 2 was. I haven't heard great
things about DE 2 but will reserve my decision till I play it.

I have played it. It's quite good, but as others wrote, in comparison to the
original it's slightly disappointing. It's relatively short, and the levels,
pretty as they are, are a lot smaller than those in DX1 (the game was
developed both for PC & XBOX so I'm guessing the smaller map sizes have
something to do with that.
