980Ti Overheating Problems

I have an MSI 980 Ti Armour 2X graphics card and a 500W power supply that is 80+ certified. I know that this power supply is too small, but would this cause the card to overheat? I got up to 91C with 5 case fans while playing a game.... I have an i5 7500 processor. Neither the cpu or gpu have overclocks except for the factory overclock on the gpu.

No, I don't think your power supply's potential lack of wattage could cause your graphics card to overheat.

Do the graphics card fans start spinning once the card reaches 60C and above? If not, did you previously override the fan curve with MSI afterburner?

What is your power supply's precise manufacturer and model number?

What is the ambient temperature in the room where this computer is located? What country are you located?

What application is reading 91C?

What prompted you to obtain the temperature of your graphics card in the first place?

Please take a photo of your computer and it's surroundings. I'm curious to know if the airflow is possibly blocked or not.

Please take three photos of the inside of your case, so that I can get an idea of the airflow and conditions. Then upload all these photos to imgur and share the link in this message thread.

unless you invest in a more robust psu for theat card max power draw to find that out ???


maybe the case fans are taking away from the gpu fans efficiency like some bad air turbulence ?? for me and what you list I could not go less then a quality build 650w psu min .

a lot of 500w rated psu's aint even true 500w units

like here you see its called a 500w but only good to 408w and just 34 amps on the 12v+ ??

I did not mean thumbs down your response as this is my first time using this forum. But yes I have used Precision xOC to change the fan curve to aggressive and are spinning at and above 60C. The power supply is an EVGA 500W 80+ White power supply. I am in the U.S. and the temperature is about 70 F at all times. The application reading this is GPU-Z and I have just been watching the cards temperature as I knew to watch that. The case has ample room to push and pull air. Nothing is blocking the airflow.

I am waiting on a new power supply to get here as I know that the lack of power can damage other components, but the heat is still a major issue. I just need to know if this will solve it.

if not maty need to rma the card if you got good case air flow as tyou claim ? with todays cards even with a warm room and ok case air flow 90c for me would be a bit too high for my liking .

80c would be the upper most I would tolerate ..

you could of got unlucky and got that 1 in 100,000 lemon card ? we all get something like that from time to time .

if you get that new psu in and try and no change maybe best to try a rma and get another one . if it does the same then ???? I feel 70-78c should be the norm for your card max load [opinion]

you can see for what its worth the reported temps these guys claim in there reviews ??

at your 90c you don't have any throttling point head room if its bios is set for 91c max

all I can say is try the new psu and see if not a go them maybe a lemon card ???
