If I wait until the after the Intel price drop, I should be able to get the whole package for under $300 US.

The reason for the Gigabyte board is the fact that it comes with a whopping set of features and GIGABYTE's DPS (Dual Power System) 8-phase power system.

Comments on my choice of core system components welcome.
 
If I were you, I'd steer clear of the 805. The systems tested on TG's article all used 975 or 955 chipsets. There have been a couple who have successfully overclocked the CPU with the Nforce4 chipset as well, although I have yet to see an NF4 reach 4.0GHz.

I have read this entire thread, yes all 23 pages of it!!! and decided to go for a 805 system. Im thinking of putting together the following components:

* Intel Pentium D Processor 805
* Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI
* 1GB Generic PC4200 DDR2-533
* Seagate 300G 7200RPM SATAII 16MB Cache [ST3300622AS]
* Gigabyte NX62TC256D8 GeForce 6200 256MB
* Zalman CNPS9500
* Thermaltake Soprano VB1430BWS

I am planning on overclocking to about 3.6-3.8Ghz as i will only be cooling with air, but apart from that does anyone see any issues? Or have any comments as i will appreciate them.

Yes, me too I tryed to search in the Gigabyte website, but I didn't find your motherboard.

I think you can try find if the name of the motherboard is correct or find more information using any search engin like google.

A couple things:
1) Don't get generic RAM. Get quality RAM, like Corsair XMS, Crucial Ballistix, OCZ Platinum, etc.

2) If you plan on doing any gaming at all, don't get the 6200. Get at least a 7600GS, or a 7600GT if you can afford it. If you don't plan on gaming, get a 7300GT, which is better than any 6200.

The rest of what you have looks good.

Hey angry_ducky thanks for the quick reply.

With the ram, im guessing the brand name ram is better built or more reliable? The corsair ram is not that much more so can go for that.

I dont plan on doing any gaming, just wanted something decent. I looked for the 7300GT and only found the following two items listed at my preffered computer stores:

* GeForce 7300GS 128MB(256MBS) PCIEx16 TVOUT DVI LP
* Geforce 7300GS, 256MB PCI Express, DVI,

Is that what you were referring to? And why are they better than the 6200?

:idea: I think that if you buy memory DDR2-667 you can find it at the same price of the DDR2-533 ... having in this way a better RAM. :)

I found that here in Australia DDR2-667 memory was actually more expensive . The reason i didnt go with it however was not this, but rather that in an earlier post it was stated that it offered no performance improvement with the proposed 805 setup.
 
Here (US) the price is almost the same. And if you need to buy something at the same price, it is better to buy the best RAM. But if in Australia prices are different go with the DDR2-533.

Anyway I'm completely satisfied with my D805. I'm actually now testing it at 3.7GHz. No water cooling, only the same Zalman that you want to buy :)

About the videocard I can suggest to you to go with GeForce Series 7xxx. You can find the 7300 on eBay for $50. That's a good price.
Otherwise series 7600 at $100.

I want a video card specially for gaming, all sorts of games like FPS's, MMORPS, RTS games.
 
Check again if your motherboar name it is correct.

If it is correct, type it in GOOGLE or other search engine and find your motherboard specification.

How old is your motherboard? When did you bought it?
 
could you plz help me search? I tryed before, i tryed again, i've searched at google, but no specification. Only forums and you know. My PC is about 3 years old and havn't changed my computer a bit.

edit: i've updated my sig with more information. I dont know what kind of information is usefull, so i have just set something there.. you may need it to help me out 😀
 
I tried again to search in the Gigabyte website, but it is not possible to find it. I was also looking in the fujitsu-siemens website, but nothing to do.

I think that your mobo come with an already assembled computer.

If you run CPU-Z and you do a print-screen I can see more information.

If it is hard to find your motherboard consider to buy a new and better motherboard so that can support the pentium D and even Conroe in the next months.

Here we go, perfect!

Your CPU socket is 478. The Pentium D805 need the socket 775.
So you can not install in this motherboard the Pentium D805.

Because your motherboard is 3 years old and has the old socket, I suggest you to buy a new motherboard that support the Pentium D805. I think that you can find the motherboard for your need starting from $80 and going up. Specially if you buy an used one.

Also make sure that the motherboard that you buy has a good overclocking capability.

And also if you change motherboard I think that you can not use your actual memory RAM. So you need to buy the RAM too.

So is time to change and upgrade your system.

I know what you mean, i need new motherboard. But it sound easier than said. I dont even know how to swtich a motherboard and you know... So, i'll keep that on hold.

I can give you my msn, but is only that I'm studying and I don't have much time for chat.

Read and write during my breaks in the forum is much more easier for me.

About the video card you need to be carefull about AGP or PCI-E version. I think that your computer support only AGP.

Where do you leave? How much do you want to spend for the video-card?

Well with 150 euro you can buy a great video card. Specially if you buy it on ebay.

I sold last week my GeForce 7800 GT for $199, so I think was same price that you want to spent. The only think is that my video card was PCI-E.

Please, do not buy unknow videocard like CLUB, I never heard before. Maybe I'm wrong, but go with eVGA, XTX,

click on the link below, here there are some videocard that meet your criteria. All of those videocard are AGP and nVidia from GeForce 6800 to 7900. With any of those you will be fine for any game. Remember that the price might be in $$$ rather than euro. So if you have euro you get a better conversion.

look where it say Buy it Now and you get the price. Make sure that they ship in your country.
 
I want a water cooling system that will be able to handle the heat of my system, and allow me to overclock it to 4.1GHz, while keeping the temperatures at reasonable levels. I would also like a bit of room for growth in the future as I might want water cooled SLI and Chipset. Here is what I'm looking at purchasing:

:? Jeasus Christ! I tought that this was a list of a complete new PC! But it is only a water cooling system! Wow! I think that a refrigerator will cost you less than this! What about a nice uncle Zalman FAN ?
 
What program do you use to torture test the CPU? I have been trying Prime95 and CPU Burn In, but those only use about 50% of the proc, or a total of 1 CPU at a time.

Also, the MB I have, the P5N32-SLI Deluxe from ASUS (NForce4 board, not Intel, obviously as it is SLI) seems to consistently sets the voltage lower than what I have selected for Vcore in the bios. So in comparing voltage levels for testing with what is in the article, should my vcore reported values (through CPU-Z as well as the ASUS Probe II program) be around the article values, or should the selected amount in the bios be what I use to compare?

Overall the test is going pretty well. I am up to 3.6 Ghz, however when I left Prime95 running all night it apparently rebooted. My vcore at fully loading is at about 1.36 - 1.38, but I had to set it to like 1.4375 in the bios for it to get up there. So I am wondering if I really want to be at about 1.4 like in the article, if I should up the voltage some more. I just want to make sure there is no major risk of damaging the CPU at these voltages.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not familiar with this "uncle Zalman FAN," would you be so kind as to provide us with a link to a review where we can read more about this superlative of the air cooling world?
Seriously, I'm just messing with you. The simple answer to your question is no, a refrigerator (I think you mean Phase Change Cooling) will not cost you less. That's what I plan for in phase two of my cooling campaign (either a ETC Mach II GT or a asetek VapoChill LightSpeed [AC]™, and recycling my water cooling hardware to cool the chipset and an SLI configuration.
So does anyone who is has had some actual experience with liquid cooling projects, especially ones concerning the Pentium D 805 overclocked care to give me some feedback my shopping list?
