COMPETITION:

"Guess the average transfer rate"

I will be transfering a ~300Mb file from one of my drives to the other. you have to guess the average transfer rate (Mb/sec).
the winner gets showered with praise & glory.

competition nitty gritty:
(info you may need)
athlon 1386Mhz 154mhz fsb.
via ata100 interface.
ata100 ide cable.
[SOURCE] primary master: 40Gb IBM 60GXP ata100, 7200rpm, 2Mb cache, 2/3 full, defragmented, NTFS.
[DESTINATION] primary slave: 16.8Gb IBM 16GP ata33, 5400rpm, 512Kb cache, 1/2 to 3/5 full. defragmented, FAT32.

obviously the slower drive will determine the transfer rate. your skill comes in trying to estimate this with the drive half full and having both drives on the same bus.

Remeber. closest guess wins the glory. judges decision is final (me)

I'm going to say between 25 - 35MB/sec.

Or wait even better! Between 0 - 100MB/sec. Haha! I won!

Since IDE usually never sustains its highest transfer rate, and you have a 5400 RPM hard drive on the same channel with it, sharing the same bandwidth, I would guess something pretty horrid like 5 to 10 mb/s.

and the winner is....

*cheezy drum roll*

RBERTINO!!!!!

yay

my transers average between 6200 & 6500 Kb/sec.
so thats 47-50 sec's for a 300 mb file.

not too shabby. looking back to some old hdtach results it seems my hdd never could really manage above 18mb/sec sustained... even when completely empty.
and that was reads too, not writes. writes were a bit slower again.
sounds bad i know but the drive WAS blazingly fast when it first came out, 2 years ago now.

so... all hail the smart and wise RBERTINO!!!
