I expect a concrete answer please:

How does the 6800 XT compare to the 6600 GT? (both AGP)

I know I'll be bombarded by "the XT suxxorz get a GS/GT etc.", but in view of my location, those options are not available. AGAIN, my prices are not your newegg prices. The GS/GT (and X800 GTO) variants cost me ~$250-$300+ whereas the XT/6600 GT are ~$150 and this is for someone on a budget. The only other choice in this range is the X1600pro.

How high are the chances of unlocking/overclocking the XT (Asus or XFX AGP)? I've seen some benchmarks and my first impression is that the XT is about equal to the 6600 GT, but would like some more info.

Thanks.

with the xt is that manufacturers were allowed free play with the stock speeds.

The XT is a better card than the 6600gt in most ways

xt has a 256 bit bus
gt has a 128 bit bus

xt has 1 more vertex shader than the gt
Both are 8 pipes

some people seem to have unlocked some of the pipes on the xt and overclocking it should be straight forward.

Look at the listed speeds for the xt basic should be 325/700 but free reign was given so most will be higher stock.

Look Here at the review

I would go 6800xt if they are the same price, you could get lucky and get a monster ocing card for a budget.

Anyone have experience with the N6800XT from Asus? None of the bigger sites reviewed it...

What really pisses me off, is seeing a price difference of $100 or more for the same chip but different platforms (AGP/PCI-E)

I hate that $100 price difference. Extremely *****. Total B$. I think there a like a $10 dollar peice that you put in, $100 is not justifable.

XT is a lower clocked card (nvidia wise, to spite ATIs high end XT LOL).

Nvidia XT = poor
ATI XT = good

The old nvidia 5900xt was a 5900 with lower clock speeds, otherwise the same (256bit, 8 pipelines etc).

Did you even read the question? I know the XT has only 8/4 pipelines, a 256 bit memory bus and clocked at around 325/700. I know that the AGP parts should be based on the NV40 and therefore have some unlocking potential. I know all about the 5900 - although what that has to do with anything...

I'm asking on how does it compare to the 6600 GT and which you would pick if they were the same price.

They compare very close, both have advantages and disadvantages.

The 6600 GT has much higher clockspeeds, but the 6800 XT has a 256-bit bus that'd help with some AA & AF.

Basically, if I had to leave them stoock I'd get the 6600 GT.

But if I were overclocking, I'd try my luck witht he 6800 XT, you might even be able to unlock some pipelines and get a 6800 GS or even 6800 GT out of it.

Do you know how high the chance of successfully unlocking at least to 12/5 is? My only experience was with the 9500 and that didn't work too well in my case. Just by what criteria are the rejected NV40s for the XT selected?
