A couple strange problems

Hello everybody,

I'm experiencing strange, but minor problems. You see, when I right click on the 'my computer' icon to access system properties, it takes up to 10 seconds (or more) to open up. The funny thing is it loads quickly after I resume my session after pressing the standby button or right click on it again.

Also, my pc used enter standby mode within a few seconds, but now it takes around 10 or more seconds if I'm using standby for the first time after starting my computer up. But if I use standby again before a reboot, it does it fast, just like it should. Besides these minor problems, my pc is working just fine and is virus free. What is the deal here? Thanks for any help.

I'm using Windows XP SP3 btw.

Are you leaving a CD/DVD disc in the drive? My wife insists on leaving a game disc in one of my XP systems and it causes a pause similar to what you describe.

Nope, my drives are empty. The main thing is that going into standby mode used to be really fast, pretty much as soon as I pressed the standby button it went into standby, not anymore though. Now it takes at least 10 seconds to do this. I also tried bootvis, but to no avail. What can the problem be?

Do you have shared network folders on another computer? That can also cause a pause.

I believe I disabled the network shares folder, so that's definitely not teh cause. Maybe doing a repair install might fix the problems.
