A few days ago I started to hear popping and static in my headset. I thought it was my drivers somehow and I reinstalled the drivers I had, didn't help. Then I updated the drivers to their latest version, didn't help. So I've now ordered a new headset and tried that, didn't help. I can only imagine that it's the MB that's starting to get weird. My motherboard is only around 7 months old.

I might remember wrong here but, I think a few days before this happened I was in a skype call and the person I was talking to had a wireless headset that would often decide to "not be in range" and make a horrible static sound. I'm thinking that this horrible static sound that occured damaged my MB's audio jacks somehow.. but I wouldn't know, and I can't remember if I had this issue before that call took place.. I just know they were close to each other when happening.

The popping and static also gets worse if I'm listening to something on youtube and then open another tab in my browser. Say that if I'm only on youtube or watching a movie, or playing a game, the popping and static happens at 30-50% of the time. But if I open another tab while doing this, the popping and static increases to 60-90% of the time.

Motherboard: Asus Prime Z270-A Socket-1151

Thanks in advance!

Take a look in "Control Panel > Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers" and see what audio controllers you have and if the drivers are up to date.

Some features on your motherboard;

Audio Feature :
- Audio Shielding: Ensures precision analog/digital separation and greatly reduced multi-lateral interference
- Unique de-pop circuit: Reduces start-up popping noise to audio outputs
- EMI protection cover to prevent electrical noise to affect the amplifier quality

Yes. My drivers are up to date.
